The 11million for Fowler shouldnt count as he wasnt a Houllier signing and he was worth a lot more before GH took over. That money for Heskey hasnt even been recieved yet.

Guys, go to the BBC news website at [URL=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/liverpool/3742003.stm] and read Alan Hansen's article on "Why Houllier had to go". He got it spot on when he said this:-
There was just too much mediocrity for the fans to accept.

Supporters may accept an unadventurous style of play if you are challenging for the major prizes, but Liverpool were not and some of the performances at Anfield, in particular, were desperate.

Liverpool's fans were becoming disillusioned and I think this played a massive part in the decision.

There were times when they could have been more adventurous and aggressive and it was hard to see Michael Owen stranded on his own up front at Anfield, of all places.

I also think the fact that Liverpool Football Club, one way or another, is about to have a massive cash injection of £60m, may also have played a part.

The next two or three signings will be crucial to the future of the club, and maybe the board were worried about Gerard's recent track record.

I always feel if you sign five players and three work out, that's a fair ratio. Too many of Liverpool's were not working out.

There is always an element of gamble when you buy big, for example I was one of many who thought the signing of Juan Sebastian Veron would ensure Manchester United regained the Champions League.

Wrong.
There may have been a turning point in Gerard's reign in 2002, when he signed Salif Diao, Bruno Cheyrou and El-Hadji Diouf for a combined £20m.

None of those signings have worked, and no matter how big the club is, that outlay for little return cannot be sustained. It is a massive drain on resources.

Look at Wenger and Ferguson's transfer record. Yes, they have made some big errors, but if three out of five big signing work out and improve the squad in terms of the playing advancement, then that is an acceptable ratio. However, Houllier is nowhere near this ratio.

In fact, the team has been mired in mediocrity and it gets worse as time goes by. Ture, we don't lose heavily and it is argueable that Houllier's team are defensively an improvement over those of Evans and Souness. However, the attack is worse as we can't really score well, especially against well organised teams.

For being in the 6th year in charge after having been given 128 million pounds to spend, Houllier's results do not merit any more extension to his tenure. In fact, he was lucky not to have been sacked earlier.

houllier made some very good signings during his reign but unfortunately he also made some very bad ones who were not suited to english football.

take el-hadji diouf for example. i don't think that he is a bad footballer by any means. i just think he is a footballer that was overpriced and was never going to fit into gerard houllier's setup.

as for biscan at 5.5m and diao at 5m, are you having a laugh or what?

Look, forget about Houllier now. He's gone for good. It is about time for us to move on and start a new fresh now.
There is no point to talk about Houllier's transfer. It is finished now.

Incidentally I have heard from a number of sources that the Robbie Fowler transfer to Leeds was actually closer to 13million rather than the published 11million.

Apparently Houllier let it slip recently that Leeds paid more than they made out and I think I remember a story where one of the new Leeds chairman after Peter Risdale opened the books and found that the club had paid far more for players than they let on.

Well, whoever comes in and takes over the hot seat may be able to get the best out of the likes of Diouf, maybe they will buck up and look at it as a fresh start to try and impress.

An example of what i am talking about would be Angel under O'Leary's managment.
