Thai PM in Liverpool talks
Southampton 2-0 Liverpool
Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is in negotiations to buy a stake in Liverpool, according to his advisor.
Thavatchai Sajakul, the Thai national team manager who is advising Thaksin, says talks with the Premiership club are at an early stage.
"They want to sell to us, and we want to buy. We've expressed our interest that we want to be part of their club," said Thavatchai.
He added: "We are still in the phase of unofficial negotiations."
Liverpool, who are currently eighth in the Premiership after a 2-0 defeat at Southampton on Sunday, have made no comment.
Thavatchai declined to give further details about other Thai investors who are involved with Thaksin's approach.
"We still haven't decided the details, but are we serious about this? Yes, we're serious," said Thavatchai.
In October Thaksin announced he wanted to buy Fulham, but nothing came of his interest.
Thaksin, who is a billionaire, made his fortune in the telecommunications industry before entering politics.
