Thai PM in Liverpool talks

Southampton 2-0 Liverpool
Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is in negotiations to buy a stake in Liverpool, according to his advisor.
Thavatchai Sajakul, the Thai national team manager who is advising Thaksin, says talks with the Premiership club are at an early stage.

"They want to sell to us, and we want to buy. We've expressed our interest that we want to be part of their club," said Thavatchai.

He added: "We are still in the phase of unofficial negotiations."

Liverpool, who are currently eighth in the Premiership after a 2-0 defeat at Southampton on Sunday, have made no comment.

Thavatchai declined to give further details about other Thai investors who are involved with Thaksin's approach.

"We still haven't decided the details, but are we serious about this? Yes, we're serious," said Thavatchai.

In October Thaksin announced he wanted to buy Fulham, but nothing came of his interest.

Thaksin, who is a billionaire, made his fortune in the telecommunications industry before entering politics.

at least he made his money honestly unlike ambramovich

i hope it happens, we have some class players but there's some areas that are poor and need improving, i.e. right sided midfielder, quick center half and a new striker

thai takeover latest

Thaksin has been linked with a takeover of the Reds
Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra does not want to buy Liverpool, according to his advisor.
Thailand coach Thavatchai Sajakul says Thaksin wants to link up with Liverpool to promote football in Thailand.

"Our intention is not to take over," Sajakul said. "We just want some kind of access to a Premier League club.

"We're looking very closely at Liverpool and aside from the access we need some co-operation. Our intention is just to support Thai football."

He added: "Our prime minister has already spoken to the Liverpool chairman but the details of it cannot be revealed.

"I think negotiations have been going on for the last two-and-a-half months.

"We have told them our intentions, our interest and they haven't come back officially."
