Torres won't be here in the Summer anyway in my opinion, so agonising over selling or not is a moot point. My only hope is that we sell him far away from the Premiership.

to be honest, cashing in on Torres might be the best for all concerened. He's had a few injuries and his body language suggests he wants out.

Yeah, I agree, his body language of late has been uninterested.  He didn't even celebrate when Stevie got his goal against Blackburn.  I'd love for him to stay. Maybe a change in manager will bring a change in attitude.

I pointed out to him that United could eventually afford to sell Ronaldo as they had decent strrength in depth anyway. We're nowhere near that kind of position, so for us it's about keeping the strengths we do have, get the best out of them and build around it. Then you might re-look at the top players and who you might trade in in order to keep the squad progressing.

Just hope he gets on the scoresheet again tonight.

The problem is we rely on him so much, so if he is out if form the impact is greater than the Ronaldo scenario you talk about.
They have a much better squad of players, if Torres has a bad season it has a massive effect on the teams chances of being successful.

I kind of understand where the guy was coming from to be honest, we need 3 or 4 new players after all.

Yep got to agree we should sell him for 2 reasons:

1. Torres himself ,this is one of the best strikers in the World ,he wants/needs to play for a team which is a Local and CL contenders. That is why he left Atletico Madrid. He doesn't want to stay here.

2. Money, Money ,Money - we are in the process (i hope) of a total rebuilding we need a lot of new quality players and time to succeed. Selling Torres (and Johnson) + New funds injection from owners will allows us to bring 4-6 new players which hopefully would bring hope to the Red stands.

It's a tragedy seeing Torres leave but that is the grim reality of Liverpool 2011.

I don't want to see him leave but we cannot afford to have our only real top striker off form for a long period of time, we don't have any quality as back up.
I can see sense in cashing in and buying 3 players with the money.

Naturally my preferred option is to keep him and buy new players also!

your right mate, but at the moment that is where the problem is always going to be ATMIT! the owners really, really need to come out & make a concrete statment-because if they don't even have the b@lls to sack hodgson now! not next week or the week after what player in their right mind will or want to join the club!

that is so fecking wrong it hurts for me. any player should be proud & privaliged to be playing for LFC let alone be mentioned in joining us. we should be in a posistion where we are,as in the past picking & choosing players who may fit the bill, not fecking accepting anything else.

that's where the likes of Torres & gerrard come in. quality players anywere should think to themselves-Torres & gerard play for LFC  that's were i want to be- sorry i know i'm living in the past now, cause the likes of Kenny & Rush would have produced that reaction & mindset from any player then!

my real fear is that if the owners don't spend & spend in quality now or in the summer (hey it might be too late by then) that Torres will leave LFC & that is a major worry!  regardless of his form at the moment-cause i for one totally agree that his body language is wrong atm,his sttitude is not acceptable etc. but i for one really, really don't want him to leave!

Torres is world class & i for one sincerly hope he shows in the future as he has done in the past, that he re-gains this status, maybe he needs to feel the love & attention that gives him that edge, if so let's just sing it on sunday & every game going foward, cause for me Fernando Torres is Liverpool's number 9. & long may it continue-many have said it so i will say it also-

form is temporary, class is permanent!

Because you were pleased that one of your team mates scored a goal. So you can only celebrate when youre winning...?

Surely it is purely coincidence that just hours after Roy's departure Torres comes out and says he intends to fulfill his cuurent contract???  ??? ??? :D

and I quote....

"My head is in Liverpool and on helping save our season. I am professional and I always fulfil my deals.

I haven't considered leaving, although in football that depends on the club."

You're right let's look on the negative side.  I'm sure that if he was looking to leave he would voluntarily come out all of a sudden and say he isn't.  Makes perfect sense to me.

He *might* leave yes, the club may get a silly offer, and decide it is best for the club, but I'd rather hear the player say he has no intention to leave at this point than see him continue the silence we have seen for six months.

You are right though, the proof is on the pitch, and that starts today.  I bet if he does score we might see the famous "Five Times" salute to the Manure fans  :grinning:

it's not being negative, it's not positive either. its just realistic that lots of footballers (and managers) say things then do the opposite a few months later. I was just trying to be balanced. Its not what they say it's what they do on the pitch. Here's hoping he's gonna be revitalised now under kenny

Torres is going to have a blinder today , i can feel it in me bones. Anyway this will make you lot feel better.

"There's nothing better than listening to the man who fans consider to be the greatest Liverpool player of all time: Kenny Dalglish. As I said, Guillem wanted to do a report on Liverpool's past and it's present. But Kenny and I are not the same: he is the greatest player of all, I was just a new arrival. I had scored only a handful of goals, nowhere near what Kenny had achieved. There was no comparison: I still haven't done anything to even get close to him and I felt a little embarrassed, but Dalglish immediately put me at ease. 'You can only ever be a legend in someone's mind. So long as you never become a legend in your own mind, there's no problem', he said 'People want to pigeon-hole you, Fernando; they want to label you, rank you, judge you and compare you to others. But all that really matters is that you are yourself.'

Balague reminded me that Kenny and I do have things in common: We're both Strikers, we're both Pisces, we were both Liverpool's record signing and, he said, we're both capable of turning the Kop into 'a frenzied hive of humanity'...more importantly, Liverpool unites us. As Guillem put it: That's what this club is all about. Players come and go, but the shirt and the continuity remain. Torres plays with Jamie Carragher, who played with Robbie Fowler, who played with John Barnes, who payed with Ian Rush, who played with Dalglish. And Dalglish played with Emlyn Hughes, who played with Ian St John, who played with Roger Hunt, who played with Ronnie Moran, who played with...Well, you can keep going all the way back to Malcolm McVean, the man who scored the first goal in Liverpool's history in 1892.

The other thing we have in common is goals. Dalglish told me that we're the ones who make people's dreams come true. The fans can't play so they live their dreams through us. Then Kenny revealed something that surprised me: 'I always wanted to go on the Kop, but I never could,' he said 'the only time I have ever been on the Kop is when the stadium has been empty. It's funny, my son has been there but I haven't. A friend took him and looked after him; he spent the game with him on the Kop. He lived a dream that I couldn't.' Like Kenny, I've only been on the Kop when it was empty. I would love to think that when I retire it will be impossible for me to watch a game from the Kop too. That would mean I had achieved something great.

Dalglish told me, as he later repeated during that meal with Souness, Lee and Robinson, that the key to Liverpool's success was the harmony within the team. 'No team has ever been successful without a good atmosphere in the dressing room,' he said. 'They don't have to go out for drinks together or be best friends, but having a good group is very important. We had a great dressing room, we were really united. Even now there are six or seven of us that are still close. We play golf, we go out with our wives. It's special. That doesn't happen now, does it? In twenty years time there won't be six of you still round the club.' Who knows? What I do know for sure is that we are all committed to keeping Liverpool great.

During that meeting we talked and talked about football. I talked about the fact that there are games when things don't go for you but that I will never hide. I always want the ball, even if I'm having a bad day. Liverpool's legendary No7 said he was the same, 'Of course you want the ball. You have to keep going. As a striker you miss more chances than you score. The goals aren't what matter most; what matters most are the chances you miss. The more you miss, the closer you are to the next one you're going to score. You have to think like that: if you don't have the courage to develop that kind of attitude you won't make it at this level.'

In Dalglish's era, there weren't so so many games broadcast on television, so he had to go and watch players, to see what habits the goalkeepers had, what the outstanding qualities of the defences were, to see if he could learn anything. Then, later on, he watched games to see if there was a player he might like to sign. 'But' Kenny said 'I don't enjoy it as much as I did when I was a kid.'

I learned so much from my time with Kenny. I really like him. He's a normal person who's very accessible. He says he doesn't feel like a legend but that's exactly what he is. The fact that he has stayed so normal really struck me. I can't be compared to him but I feel proud to have been able to speak to him for so long. It was a real honour for him to have given up his time to talk to me. Meeting Kenny has made me even more hungry for success, even more determined to work hard and maybe, just maybe, see if one day I can compare myself with him.

I'll never forget the last piece of advice he gave me, as we were leaving the restaurant. Just as he went out the door, the greatest player in the history of Liverpool turned to me and said: 'Fernando, Liverpool is a special club with special fans. They love those players who love wearing their shirt. But their not stupid: they know when players mean it and when they don't; they know when it's just for show - when a player kisses the badge and all that. They love to identify themselves with the players out on the pitch and I think they're going to identify with you very, very easily.'

What an honour."
