And if I remember correctly, he was having niggling injuries which finally resulted in his poor showing at the world cup. I can't believe some people are advocating selling him. Do they know that we can go back to the period where we only had lousy strikers like baros and cisse? Keep Torres at all cost. Form is temporary class is permanent!

When was that? The last season when he scored 18 goals in 22 league matches when struggling with injuries?

I really wish Torres would return to the terrible form he had back then.

Torres was starting to look like the old Torres again after he got his goal today.

Just goes to show how much his confidence affects his game

You can see how when the correct tactics are applied Torres comes to life again in the second half against Bolton... Clearly his confidence really took some damage...His frustrations are really boiling over on the pitch and he was lucky not to have been sent off when he pushed the Bolton player with his hand to the guy's face. The ref must be a fan of Torres or something. I'm starting to see the petulance that I always mentioned Torres had when things are not going well for him and it doesn't look good. We need to get Roy out before Torres and Reina says enough is enough...

I was having a conversation with a typical cluless manc yesterday who was saying that we should sell him in January and use the money to bring in 2 or 3 players. I pointed out to him that United could eventually afford to sell Ronaldo as they had decent strrength in depth anyway. We're nowhere near that kind of position, so for us it's about keeping the strengths we do have, get the best out of them and build around it. Then you might re-look at the top players and who you might trade in in order to keep the squad progressing.

Just hope he gets on the scoresheet again tonight.

Precisely Stmichael...

I just wonder wether Torres' problem has to do with the hamstring injury he suffered in the World Cup final. In his first 2 seasons, he use to outsprint defenders all the time. He outsprinted Philip Lahm in the Euro final against germany to score the winning goal. Against Blackburn last night, you can clearly see that he's holding back. His explosive acceleration is not there. I just hope that it's temporary. Sometimes the hamstring injury is in the mind: you don't dare to push your body 100% because you're afraid that it might break down again. Remember what happened to Michael Owen?

The problem is we rely on him so much, so if he is out if form the impact is greater than the Ronaldo scenario you talk about.
They have a much better squad of players, if Torres has a bad season it has a massive effect on the teams chances of being successful.

I kind of understand where the guy was coming from to be honest, we need 3 or 4 new players after all.

Yep got to agree we should sell him for 2 reasons:

1. Torres himself ,this is one of the best strikers in the World ,he wants/needs to play for a team which is a Local and CL contenders. That is why he left Atletico Madrid. He doesn't want to stay here.

2. Money, Money ,Money - we are in the process (i hope) of a total rebuilding we need a lot of new quality players and time to succeed. Selling Torres (and Johnson) + New funds injection from owners will allows us to bring 4-6 new players which hopefully would bring hope to the Red stands.

It's a tragedy seeing Torres leave but that is the grim reality of Liverpool 2011.

I don't want to see him leave but we cannot afford to have our only real top striker off form for a long period of time, we don't have any quality as back up.
I can see sense in cashing in and buying 3 players with the money.

Naturally my preferred option is to keep him and buy new players also!
