I never expected him to get through the forth coming season without spending some time in the treatment room and just 24 hours ago despite some reservations about his "fitness" . I wouldn't have counternanced selling Torres, he is simply one of the most gifted players to have ever worn our shirt.

However, as much as we appreciate him, in light of his ever increasing injuries, I think there is a case to be made for us to start thinking with our heads and not just our hearts.

Prior to the world cup he may well have been worth the £50-£60-£70 million that some have set as his worth. I would suggest that unless he can quickly recover from this latest setback and get back to playing and proving his worth we will find that his value to LFC as a player and as a marketable asset will rapidly diminish.

I would never want to see a fully fit injury free player of Nando's quality leave us, unfortunately it seems like a long long time since he was fully fit and injury free.

Completely agree

Is it just Fickle we should call you or Mr Fickle ?  :D

Give him a long rest, let Dr Oz get to work and let's make the purchase of a viable backup our number one priority this summer. Babel, Ngog and Kuyt just aren't good enough as long-term striking options. Jovanovic and Pacheco may yet prove their worth as attacking options, but one is still just a kid and neither are out-and-out strikers.

I have a feeling that Torres may look at the physical nature of the prem and realise that injuries have robbed him this season and robbed him of playing a better part in the WC and decide he doesnt want to put his body on line in the prem and may look to leave anyway

He may well be thinking that but I think after that gesture with the scarf that isn't foremost in his mind. I suspect he will at give us another 2 maybe 3 years before going back to Spain.

In the meantime though we should be looking to get in a striker who can share the goals instead of see how much we can get for him.

Van Persie probably plays less games a season but im sure if we got him everyone would be made up. Where is the logic?

Selling him is not the answer.

Bav don't read too much into the scarf - just because he had his club scarf on doesn't automatically mean another 3 years at Liverpool- and if Van Persie played less games then no I wouldn't be happy

Really? If it's not an affirmation of commitment what is it then? Im sure he isn't sick in the head to have worn it if he is going to hand in a transfer request in a week.

He was prob just given it to wear - from what I understand other players also had team scarves on - it could just as easily be an off the cuff thing but don't read too much into it .

Doubt it... and I don't think they were just 'given' stuff to wear. Pepe was wearing a top from a local club his father played for...

Is it not conceivable he actually wanted to wear it knowing people would see?

It's called realism Bav - look at the situation of our club at the moment and you can see why people aren't very optimistic about things at the moment

He is the new Hemdall  Fortunately all his predictions of impending disaster so far have been miles off, so hopefully he can keep up the good work once the season gets started.

Well I'm optimistic. I've always thought we had some good players, a squad good enough to challenge for the title, and provided we can bring in/develop credible cover for Torres I still do just about.

We've got a new manager, and will be no doubt be sold before too long. I'm very optimistic.

Me too. Best case senario... the club sits down with Fernando and tells him we WILL be sold by the end of this year... he stays and we maybe have new owners in time for the Jan window.

I read something on another forum (not ITK or TIA!!!!) about RBS giving them till October to sell up or else they will look to call in the loan then. But we still should look to get in someone half decent now to help him out up front. As much as I want Jovanovich to do well I don't think he is the answer.
