FERNANDO TORRES fears having to live with the effects of chronic long-term injuries if he stays in the Premier League much longer.
The Liverpool striker has endured a season of knee problems and his campaign was cut short when he returned to Spain for surgery to make sure he is fit for the World Cup.
Torres, who scored 18 goals in 22 league games this term, can't believe how players like team-mate Steven Gerrard and other experienced stars like Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney have coped with the physical demands of English football for so long.
The Spaniard is worried that his body can only take so much punishment before leaving him to suffer the effects beyond the end of his career.
He said: "The Premier League is such a tough competition and I have always admired this championship and the players who are here.
"This is my third season and I'm still amazed to see Gerrard, Rooney and Lampard, players who have been here a long time, still playing at such a high level and with such impressive rhythm because the English league really wears down a player.
"I just can't imagine what state I'll be in within five or six years if I continue to play here - it could easily give me problems when I stop playing. The physical level is superior to all other countries."
The former Atletico Madrid striker is fancied to leave Anfield this summer if Liverpool fail to finish in the top four and deny him the chance of Champions League football next season.
They are all but out of the race and Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has already talked up the prospect of bringing the Spaniard to Eastlands.

No he doesn't, he just needs better wide players around him.

How does that solve him getting bullied around and getting injured every other game ?
Hes too isolated in the current setup and unless someone is brought in to support him higher up then the CBs are always going to go in hard on him from behind to keep him from turning and going past them...
Add another man upfront and its more or less a different story.. With the option of a flick and someone running behind them, they'r more likely to sit back a little deeper and allow him the space to receive the ball with them having to worry about covering the space rather than the man...
Anyways agreed about the wide players bit... I think in Riera and Benny we have two capable players... If Rafa leaves then i'd certainly be looking to keep Riera as starting left winger for next season and maybe look to spend the money elsewhere..

Don't get me wrong, I think we do need a good back up for Torres, but Torres was never good at playing with another striker beside him. In my opionion we may actually need just one excellent wide player in midfield.
Maxi Mascherano Silva/Ben Arfa
Gerrard Aquilani
Torres
...not too bad, is it.
