Alonso to help fund Crouch deal?

Tue, Jul 12 2005 11:32
Aston Villa have enquired about Xabi Alonso but the midlands club are struggling to find the cash to fund a bid.
Following Steven Gerrard's new deal, any cash would come in handy for Rafael Benitez who still hopes to sign Peter Crouch from Southampton.
Spanish international Alonso would be rated around the £8m mark which looks to price out Villa. The Reds paid Real Sociedad £10.5m for the midfielder in 2004.

After struggling to establish himself in the Premiership during his two years with Aston Villa, Crouch was a revelation for Southampton last term, finding the target 16 times despite Saints' relegation.

Those goals now look likely to earn the 24-year-old a move to the European champions, providing they are prepared to match Southampton's valuation of £7million, just 12 months after Villa sold him for £2million.

"I want to sign Peter Crouch," confirmed Benítez. "I like this player and he would be a good addition to our squad.

"At this moment Rick Parry (Liverpool's chief executive) is talking to Southampton and hopefully something can be agreed."

I continue on my determined quest to convince myself that SWP is on his way....

a snippet from a rumour site...

as a trainee at liverpool, i can confirm that rafa benitez is in talks with both milito and ibanez. he wants to bring both central defenders to anfield in order to have greater competition in defence. also i would like to point out that the reason swp hasn't signed for chelsea yet is because he wants to join liverpool who are in the market for a rm. this is rafa's BIG signing of the summer. also dirk kujt will sign for liverpool by the end of the week as peter crouch is too overpriced.

I'd like to believe all that is true  :idea  :grinning:  :p

It could have been worse.  It could have said alonso is rated at 3 million pounds.

And rafa that desperate for money?

Who comes up with this stuff anyway?

Just heard an absolute cracker! Well, my mate is a Chel$ki fan and he says, get this, that because Jose Moron-io can't get his greasy mits on a top class striker, he's going after Cisse!!!

I nearly wet myself when I heard this and it is the best one so far in my opinion. Apparently, and this according to a Chel$ki forum, despite putting on a happy face for the camera, Crespo is determined to play in Italy with his family, and Jose will only let him, IF he can find a player of a similar ilk.
Despite this story (and isn't it just that!) having no real source, no grounds in reality and none of the facts, one of my mates actually believes it. All I could say about it were words like horse-sh1t and Bo11ox, but he is still adamant.
    :D
Oh, you've gotta laugh haven't you...

First of all do you have a problem with me posting my opinions ?

I'm not here to count posts but to share my views with other die-heart liverpool fans but according to your post you seem to be keen on getting as many post as you can.

Reports in The Guardian are suggesting that Liverpool have placed a bid of £7.5 million for Gabriel Milito last night. The Real Zaragoza defender has been linked with us all summer and it appears that Rafa sees him as the man to improve our defensive options.

The highly rated 24 year old has won 10 caps for Argentina and his performances since joining Zaragoza two years ago have been impressive.

Milito appears keen on the move when he said in an interview earlier this Summer, "If Liverpool make a concrete offer it would be very difficult to say no, I am happy at Real but it is not every day that the champions of Europe make you an offer."
