I agree with AB on this one.

I actually like Hargreaves as a player. Most people judge him by his England performances but at Bayern he is a far more versatile and effective player, even if he hasn't shown the form he showed two or three years ago.

Parker is a decent player but its the usual story.......overhyped local boy playing in London and loved by the press down there. Handy, but he is miles away from Didi Hamman's quality, let alone Alonso and Gerrard.

Not sure of the player though, hope its ballack but Xabi, Stevie, Hamann  ??? Owen hargrieves would make more sense cause of Smicer and Igor gone though i would imagine.

id prefer schweinsteiger over either of them 2, we have the central core in xabi/stevie and didi is good for 1/2 seasons yet.

imo

That's why I want to go on record about this. I think he will is an excellent central midfielder. He missed out at Chelsea through a combination of big names and injury but at Charlton when his confidence was high he looked like class.

I think this time next year, if he stays fit he'll be worth ten million again and he'll be in the England world cup squad.

mmmmmmmmmmmmm...................... but look at it another way though, he wasnt willing to go to the bitters which i cant blame him for cause what player would want to go there anyway, but they where going to offer him 40 grand a week hes turned that down and gone to the barcodes for 55 a week, cause he probably wont have to graft as hard at the toon would he, he could have been playing in the group stage atleast with the bitters, the barcodes finished 14th they are not really a team going places are they? he even turned down a 9 mill offer from Spurs, so hes another one that wont be playing for the jersey and only the money.
but thats just my opinion.

Red alert at Anfield as Real move for Gerrard
By Oliver Kay

JUST when it seemed that Liverpool could finally start to relax over the future of Steven Gerrard, their impending contract negotiations with the England midfield player have been threatened by a firm declaration of interest from Real Madrid, whose management team have informed Rafael Benítez that they view his captain as the galáctico to revitalise their team of ageing superstars.
Benítez, the Liverpool manager, has fielded two inquiries from Madrid in the past week and, although his response was to tell his former club that Gerrard is not for sale at any price, the inquiry was sufficient to reignite concerns at Anfield at a time when it appeared finally, in the joyous aftermath of the European Cup triumph, that the threat of losing their ambitious captain had dissipated. The approach from Real is believed to have come from Arrigo Sacchi, the Spanish club’s director of football and, coincidentally, Benítez’s mentor.

Although the Liverpool manager responded by reiterating his intention to build a team around Gerrard, Sacchi is understood to have reported back to Florentino Pérez, the Real president, with the belief that the 25-year-old may be an attainable target if his forthcoming contract negotiations prove problematic. Real are renowned for their confidence in such matters, with Pérez convinced that any player on the planet would play for his club if given the opportunity, but in this case the Spanish club may be further encouraged by Benítez’s interest in at least two of their players.

Guti, Raúl and Luis Figo have all been linked with moves to Anfield in recent weeks and, although none of the trio is a serious target at present, Benítez is known to retain a keen interest in Juanfran, the highly-rated young right winger, whom he wanted to sign as part of the Michael Owen transfer last August. Gerrard, for his part, has never expressed any great desire to play abroad and, in the light of Liverpool’s European Cup triumph, has indicated as recently as Monday that he intends to stay at Anfield after months of uncertainty about his future, but Real’s declaration of interest could complicate matters.

Liverpool remain confident that he will agree a new deal, but Real’s interest will at the very least increase the 25-year-old’s bargaining power when he and his agent sit down at the end of the month with the Liverpool board to discuss a lucrative extension to his present contract, which has only two years to run.

why is this draggin' on?
ffs get the lad in and put the damn pen into his hand NOW.

Hargreaves - IMO don't need him.
Ballack - Bayern won't let him go, he's their biggest star and we don't need to splash out all of our $$$ for that guy.

But keep the news coming Ciggy :D

Could even be Roy makaay though  :D

Thats would make sense cos Rafa would have seen him Deportivo and he is the type of player Rafa is looking for  ???

Untill he signs this is going to happen, despite the fact Gerrard wants to stay and the club aren't prepared to sell him. I'm confident he will be at Liverpool next season on a new contract, hopefully a bloody long one.
