How would you rate our season? It would have to be by our standards, obviously compared to the whole Premiership, English football or European football then we're right up in the top bracket. Hopes were high, we had Torres and Gerrard in top form and probably now have the best CB quartet around. Problems continue on the flanks and at LB, and in finding a striker to score goals and support Torres.

League : 4th on 76 points.
One place worse off, eight points better off than last season. Only six points shy of our best points tally under Rafa, but still eleven behind the Champions.

Champions League : Semi-Finalists
Losing in extra time to Chelsea at their's, if only we had scored the goals we deserved from our chances. But we can't expect to reach the final almost every season, all in all this was the one competition we actually did very well in. Maybe not as far as we could have gone, but nonetheless we got a lot closer to winning this than any other competition we were in.

FA Cup : 5th Round.
Beaten at home by Barnsley because we couldn't score our chances/beat their keeper. We had maybe too easy a path, never facing top flight opposition.

League Cup : Quarter-Finalists
Beaten at Stamford Bridge, not an easy draw and a ground Rafa has yet to come away with better than a draw at. The reserves did a good job in this competition, first top opposition we faced and we went out.


If I could vote I would probably rate this season as average. There were some positives if you want to draw those, such as not many defeats, decent points tally, semis of the Champions League. But all in all was there any progress? We've finished fourth and without a trophy is the bottom line.

Coming 3rd or 4th and doing nowt in the cups is average in my books.

Getting to another Champs League semi makes it above average.

Average at best. Yes we got to the semi final, but I would of at least liked to finsh 4th being in the race for the title, rather than finishing 4th in a race for 4th.

Average season for us, not poor because we got a really got point tally in the league and we got into the semi finals of the champions league, which is great.

Drew too many games in the Prem because we lacked a killer instinct to finish off inferior teams.

The FA and Carling Cups were a waste of time.

We eliminated ourselves from the Champions League.

Above average.

Played some good football at times, showed no character at other times. The signs are there imo for some good football and a winning mentality that will be hard to break down.

Look at us in the champs league, completely unphased by Inter and arsenal. Knocked ourselves out of the chelsea tie. I know its a cup competition but we have over the last year or so beaten the best of europe.

Its looking good. And not winning a trophy will not glaze over obvious problems ie full backs and side players.

I'd say it was an above average season. If it wasn't for all those draws, we could have been celebrating number 19 right now.

Well if you put it like that, we are making progress! But the glaring problerm is cutting edge in front of goal. Its ok scoring 110 golas but I would like see them spread out a bit more evenly.

We performed pretty much like we normally do in that we are better than most by a fair distance but equally as far off the best teams in this league.

If we are team thats expecting to win the title, and boy its a long time since we did that, then I guess its below average however we are perhaps not expected so much these days so its average really.

We pretty much finished where we are expected too I guess and overall we are treading water and same old really.

I think to make in roads into those top two places and make a challenge will take a real big investment so if thats not on the cards we can be expect a similair campaign next season.

For my money we need to outspend Utd and Chelsea by 3x at least this summer to overtake them and without that kind of investment we will need a miracle to reel them in.

For me in one sense it's average as under Rafa we generally finish third or fourth and a mile off the pace in the league, have a good Champions league run etc etc but in another sense it's a bitterly disappointing season. I actually think we've wasted a massive opportunity to make huge progress, and at the very least we are a season behind where we ought to be.

FWIW I think that we began the season with a miniscule chance of winning the title, but with a good chance of being right in the rattle. Once the Mancs had crawled out of the blocks and Chelsea had imploded, those chances had increased to an outside chance of title and "should be good things" to be in the shake up to some extent. We didn't manage to achieve that (and I should imagine most people know why I think we didn't so I won't go over it all now) and for me it's a wasted season. Had we have managed to get within five or six points of the Champions, as well as being in with a chance for much of the season, then we could have looked forward to next season as genuine contenders. As it is, we went backwards in the league and once again have the most miniscule chance of winnijng it next term.

I'll say it mick as it is what most are thinking but at the risk of being shot keep quiet ! ROTATION ! There...ive said it. Once there was just the champs league to play for rafa stopped the mass of it and the results spoke for themself. And for me rafas argument for rotation went out of the window after the champs league match against chelsea. At times this season we have looked clueless. If a team like wigan want to defend against us we are no closer to the answers when it comes to unlocking teams like these these. If gerrard or torres doesnt come up with something magical we are buggered.

I vote for a poor season. We had the run of luck when it came to the draws in the fa cup. We blew it. We struggled against luton, then against a non league team then lost to barnsley. Champs league we shined as normal but when it came to the crunch, again the players failed to show up and looked very tired. The league, I maintain that the players on the pitch have to prove there worth but also ROTATION has not helped at all.
