But honestly how often this happen? how often does a ref wrongly believe that someone dived?
I believe that more often than not the sin bin would act as a deterant...
Think of things that it could stop...... Some "soft" red cards (such as reina's push to the face of Robben) could fall under the category of a yellow card with a 5min sin bin.
Sometimes you see strikers attempting to handle the ball in the box, i remember seeing Harewood (i think) trying attempting one a few weeks ago where the ref spotted it and gave him a yellow card. A goal then could have subsequently won the game and he was going to get let off on a yellow card. A red card would be too harsh but i think that if a ref had the option of a 5 or 10min sin bin players would think twice...

I guess this arguement will never really get anywhere, the best and only solution that will follow is stronger refereeing. But I still think that it is a good idea....... :p

Yes, another great example... Didn't think of that.

Keeper pushes someone, gets sin binned, you're without a goalkeeper for 10 minutes against Chelsea, Lampard decides i know, lets test the stand in...

Or even better, you decide to take of a midfielder or striker (in our case wouldn't be a bad thing) and bring on a goalkeeper, after 10 minutes you're left with two keepers on the pitch.

People like you who want sin bins, video technology etc are a disgrace to the game in my opinion.

Wow......... i have never even mentioned bringing in a video ref, and i have no idea why you keep on bringing in up?

I guess the game is called football, but I live in Melbourne (where something like 11 of the 16 Australian Football teams come from) and I am generally pretty careful but I got caught out this time, ill make sure it doesnt happen

I think the problem lies with the fact that Referee's have never played football at a serious level, and therefore don't know how to identify a cynical and dangerous, over the top tackle.

There is a lot of talk about changes to the game and I am in two minds over it really. I LOVE football (it is football mate, not soccer, honestly) I love it how it is and I always will but over the years there have been little rule changes, the back pass rule and little bits like that.
In an ideal world all of our referees would have balls and actually book players like Robben for cheating, they would give out red and yellow cards consistantly and evenly across the board but this is not the case, they miss things, they bottle it or they make poor decisions.
What is to be done then? Leave it as it is and accept that things will occasionally go against you and you will lose matches unjustly? We have done it for decades, why not carry on?
My personal choice would be to get much tougher and much better trained referees but I just cannot see this happening.
That leaves these rule changes. Video replays would kill the flow of a game and I am 100 % against that. Goal line sensors, well I can't see a problem with that if it is instant. as for Sin bins....don't go crazy here but actually quite like the idea of them. It would really punish players who persistantly offend. maybe it should go yellow card...then sin bin or sending off depending on severity. you'd still have controversy, you'd still have error but it would be an extra tool available to referees to stop cheating.

Why impliment things in the top leagues that can't be implimented in the lower leagues?

Disgrace. Absoloute disgrace. People who are thinking of doing things like this need to be shot.

Go and follow another sport.

A sin bin in football, ffs wise up!!

It's a terrible idea!
As for saying football needs to be cleaned up,well thats balls too!
Its a mans game after all,the odd dirty or hard tackle as i would prefer to call it does no harm atal providing no one is injured!
In fact id go as far to say that a good crunching tackle can have a positive effect on a game and get the passions stired!
Theres too much nancy boy talk about our sport these days that needs to stop and too much emphasis is put on punishing players!
At the end of the day ALL teams have their fair share of bad luck on the park or bad ref decisions..but if you think about it over a season we all get our fair share of good luck and generous decisions to make a balance!

There is no way in the world a sin bin would benefit football in any way!
FFS players are afraid to tackle now more than ever...what good would a sin bin do???
Probably stop tackling all together !!
If that was the case,we might as well just stop playing football!!

The sport we love is fine as it is...nothing to do with discipline needs to change and we sure as hell dont need a sin bin!
Its not ice hockey, its not American football, its not even soccer...its football!!!

Rugby is also football btw.

Anywho, balls crossing lines can be completely sorted out by suspending those detector things that go off when u walk out of a shop.

.. erm just wanted to mention that, I`ll get my coat >.<

You agree with me completely!!!
That is exactly what i said, we need perfect refs that are trained better, but this will not happen but i think that a sin bin would help them keep better control of games.

I guess that i expected people to get pretty fired up about this thread, but seriously this is ridiculous. I have to fend off attack becasue i called our game soccer. People accuse me of trying to wreck the game through the implementation of things that i never suggested.

I am tired of this thread, i think that we have established that it would be a pretty good idea but a better idea would be for refs to just be alot better, demand respect and control the game while always penalising teams equally.

It is arguable that a yellow card with the option of a sin bin could give refs the ammunition to stop the few things that really need to be stopped (in my opinion things like strikers handballing in the box to create a goal scoring opportunity, who will usually get away for only a yellow card if caught).

Some people would rather see the game unchanged and wait for the refs to get better

I GUESS WE WILL HAVE TO AGREE TO DISAGREE!!!!!!!
