Maybe I haven't been at Anfield enough to comment either way, but from the little I've seen of Pongolle, I've always been impressed by him.....Most of the comments on this forum are the opposite though - am I missing something ? He's a young lad, better than that muppet Le Tallec by a mile, and can only get better....He's pacy, willing to get stuck in, and has a good eye for goal - anyone agree ?

In some sections it's been reported that we r chasing Raul........:p  now, that'll make two slow, lazy SPANISH strikers( moro) and here is Rafa saying that robbie is too slow..... Then what abt ur favourite :censored: Morientes Mr Benitez?

Thats double standards 4m the Boss 4m me...... his will lose a respect, atleast 4m me if he actually let robbie go and kept that idiot moron Morientes

Before the game last Sunday, I was just telling me mate that I hope Fowler'd score. That will more or less cement the deal. When he did score, we went absolutely berserk (we're crazy fans from Malaysia). I think the general sentiment of fans this part of the world seems to be the same: Robbie should stay! No doubt a lot of it boils down to sentimental reasons, but i think his performance on pitch has justified that a new contract should be given.

With all the feet dragging and cryptic comments, I'm just worried that we'll lose him (like we ALMOST lost Stevie G). But no doubt, GOD's heart and spirit is with Liverpool and he'd not bail out on patience until a firm and unequivocal "NO" has been intimated to him. But i still worry that all the comments are meant to cushion us for the blow that comes when GOD must leave becos no new contract would be forthcoming

I think in his last three Premiership starts, Fowler has scored the opening goal. A goal is a goal and Cisse is no doubt proud of his efforts in the opening stages of the Champions League, but the first goal in a Premeirship match is vital. There can be no doubt at all that Fowler is still capable of producing at this level, the only question is whether Rafa considers him as part of his masterplan.
The only thing that fills me with dread is the scenario where we keep Morientes and release Fowler. That would in my opinion be a ridiculous decision and one based on sentiment rather than footballing ability.

Morientes is still considered to be a great player in Spain so if Rafa is smart he will sell him back there for a few million "2-5m I think is possible". Robbie is a better player but you wouldn't be able to get that much for him and Robbies salary is also a lot easier to handle than Morientes.

Was it not three dissallowed goals for him and two that was actually ok goals?

I've certainly been pleased with Robbie's contribution so far and have been impressed with the precision he's shown in taking his goals against Bolton and Fulham.

Since I missed God's first coming, I decided to do some homework on his first 100 goals here

All I can say is wow!  Outstanding, lad!  :bowdown

The predatory instincts he showed goal after goal are unparalleled.  And, you know what, I think he's shown over the last few games that he's definitely still got them.

Some question Robbie's fitness but that doesn't concern me too much, TBH.  So long as he's fit enough to get in and around the box, take up good positions and poach goals he deserves a spot in the squad.  I wouldn't care if he only played 15 minutes per game so long as he continued to score goals like the ones he's put in this season or like some of the ones on that compilation.

And, FWIW, I think Rafa will definitely re-sign him.  Yes, there's been lots of talk of age and fitness in the press this week but I think this is Rafa's way of telling Robbie what he'll expect from him after he signs a new contract.  Rafa may have a slight concern that Robbie will sign a new deal at the end of the season, lose a little focus over the summer and report back for training out of shape.  Given that there will be less preparation time for the club this summer because of the World Cup, Rafa needs the players to come back sharp.  As such, I see these public comments as a way of motivating Robbie and keeping him honest once the contract is signed.  That's my hope, anyway...

What an absolutely awesome compilation. Some utterly breathtaking stuff in there. :buttrock

The link's a bit lost in amongst your post, but just so people don't miss it...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v....t%20100

The number of times that he'd hit the side of the net inside the goal...he's just unbelievably precise.

It's 1.30 in the morning, and I'm sat here applauding my computer monitor. Unreal stuff.  :D

The compilation of Robbie's 1st 100 goals shows how truely brilliant the man is.

Bow down people, and salute the greatest finisher in history.  :bowdown  :bowdown  :bowdown  :bowdown  :bowdown

Ivor, mate:

Thanks for highlighting the link better...that compilation's essential viewing as far as I'm concerned.

I was sitting at my computer, chin on the floor during the whole thing.  I had a sense he was good but some of those goals were out of this world: right foot, left foot, head, knee, backside...it didn't matter, they just went in!

The one that really gets me is his third against Arsenal (the world's fastest hattrick)...how did he get that ball past Seaman and still have the composure to tuck it away?

Magic!
