Pennant frustrated by england snub - Wtf?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

In my opinion really poor and unprofessional comments made my Pennant.

As a footballer at Liverpool, he can only try to play well and work hard for the team. Maclaren will decide when he will be ready for the international stage and not himself.

Why would Pennant want to play for England?

Patriotism? Bah, yeah right.

Is it anyone's lifelong dream to be managed by Steve McClaren?

Disgraceful, an england player wanting to play for england...

hello? people? have u seen england play?
We need something different. We need players to speak out for once instead of hiding behind whoever the manager is.

Bentley says england should buck up and sort it. Penannt is saying he wants a chance. If wright phillips is playing for england when he cant play for cheatski then why shouldnt pennant get a chance?

his attitude sucks?
"All I can do is keep playing my football and hope for the call. There's still a lot more to come from me yet and I'll be a better player again next year."
sounds good to me. nice to hear someone say what they think for once (ok, he didnt say it the right way)

lol, Pennant has not done enough but then again its England we are talking about. Kieron Richardson has made the squad plenty of times and the squad isnt that good anyway.

Ok, just for the sake of curiosity. Which RW would you play in the England squad rather than Pennant? I mean right wingers, not right midfielders.

I don't know well the english players, only the most known ones, but which one would you pick?

I reiterate, his words are not clever, he should have said something like "I wish one day I could play with the national squad" rather than saying he deserves a chance, but other than that, I don't think it would be madness if they summoned him.

Lennon all the way. Joe Cole is an effective right winger as well.

On another note, just realised Pennant is half Jamaican lol.

Its an absolute disgrace that players like Nolan don't get a chance in the england squad. Id love to see Nolan and gerrard in the centre. More scousers in the team. Id even pick Fowler. He's still a boss finisher. People get too pedantic when it comes to strikers I feel. Going on about touch, pace, mobility bla bla bla. A striker is there to put the ball in the back of the net. You can't call yourself a 'striker' if you don't do that .

if pennant spent half the time concentrating on his football as he does spouting off to the press, we'd have one hell of a player on our hands. a few months ago he was going on about how he'd "proved himself" after a couple of half decent displays. as far as i'm concerned he's still got an awful lot to prove.

Pennant doesn't have to prove his credentials and ability to get into the England team.

Heck, McLaren didn't have to do that to become the England boss!

Gerrard has never played as a winger, but as a right midfielder, it's a different rol.

Aaron Lennon? I think I saw that lad in TOttenham right? well he seems good, I haven't seen him more than 5 games tbh.

Wright Phillips? He's small and unimpressive.

Well, that's what I wanted to know, good to know the "average" winger that we have can only be improved by 2 or 3 names at best, even including Gerrard as a winger, which is cheating

I remember Lennon aswell because before bringing Pennant he was one of the names mentioned here. Back then Pennant seemed a decent option, I wonder how much it would take us of getting tired of Lennon if he came to Anfield.

After the goalies the wingers are traditionally the most criticised players in any team. The bloody strikers fail 5, score one, and are heroes. The goalies stop 80, concede one, and they're cráp. Wingers have to receive a lot of kicks, have to work a lot for the team and have to make explosive runs.

That's why they tend to dissapear in the game at times, and that's why they're so criticised often. Because of their role, they're statistically the players that lose possesion more often, that doesn't help neither.

In a nutshell, Pennant is not world class, but defo not average, FFS. A winger is a winger, and Pennant is ok and improving in my book.
