all the sports were off today in Italy, on the radio just now thet said that no sport will take place for 3 days.
i know we have them over here but....

There was supposed to be a meeting with the UEFA today over the games havent heard the outcome yet so i suppose It will go ahead , would have prefered a postponement try and get some players back.

  Liverpool's forthcoming Champions League opponents Juventus warmed up for Tuesday's quarter-final first leg at Anfield with a weekend free of action due to the sad death of Pope John Paul II. 
The Bianconeri were due to play away at Fiorentina but all the scheduled games in Serie A were suspended as a mark of respect.
 
Juve, however, travel to Merseyside on the back of three successive league wins during the month of March.
 
Their last outing was a 1-0 victory over Reggina and they currently sit second in the Serie A table with just goal difference separating them from leaders AC Milan.

Yes there is no sports for three days in Italy but since we play at Anfield it would make no sense to postpone it. The AC Milan and Inter Milan fixture however might be postponed.

Well it is still scheduled to be shown on espn 2, so hopefully it'll get played.  We are coming into the game on a high, and to postpone it would be silly.

Italian games called off

All competitive Italian sport has been called off this weekend because of the deteriorating health of Pope John Paul II.

The decision was taken by the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) on Saturday to suspend the action.

Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, a German who is one of the Pope's closest aides, confirmed the gravity of the condition of the 84-year-old pontiff, saying the Pope was "aware that he is passing to the Lord".

There had already been calls for matches to be postponed in Italy, including one from Bologna coach Carlo Mazzone, the oldest coach in Serie A.

Traditionally, the death of a Pope leads to the cancellation of all sport in Italy although the current Pope's position is unusual because, as a Pole, he is the first non-Italian Pope for more than 400 years.

On Friday it had been indicated that the games would go ahead while the pontiff was still alive.

CONI confirmed the decision to call off the matches in a statement which read: "The CONI president Gianni Petrucci, in the light of the latest medical bulletins which declare the inescapability and the imminence of the end of the Holy Father.... has invited the national sports federations to give measures for the immediate suspension of competitive activities that have been scheduled for this weekend."

On Friday, when games looked scheduled to go ahead, Petrucci had asked clubs to have a moment of prayer and meditation before matches.

The Pope, a goalkeeper in his youth and also a good skier, has never lost his interest in sport and held a service at the Olympic Stadium in Rome for sportspeople as part of the Roman Catholic Church's celebrations for the Millennium.[B]

As much as I respect the Pope there is no reason to postpone games that are being played outside of Italy

Erm...he is/was the pope you know. He was a great man and a leader of millions. The death of this one person has affected that many things.

That being said, Pope John Paul will be cheering us on from the pearly gates and will probably want the game to go ahead on schedual =)

I think he said before he died 'I am happy, as you should be'

Maybe devine inspiration can help us too! hehe
