Nunez - How good is he-1st xi or bench?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby spud » Thu Oct 07, 2004 5:33 pm

Having just joined I've been reading many threads (very enjoyable) and notice a lot of users quoting Nunez as our answer to the right midfield situation or, to clarify, quoting him in a possible midfield line up as first choice.

I'm positive about him, but I've never seen him play - so it's based on the belief that if he was useless then RB wouldn't have taken him? (maybe naive, but that's the way it is!)

I have heard some Spanish pundits (Jerry Armstrong a co.) describe him as a "squad player".  Apparently just last year he considered retiring from football to pursue a professional commercial career (I think he has a degree and he's a lawyer or something like that).

Does anyone have any views on this, how good is he, have you seen him play?

Have you heard similar comments?

Following on the "squad player" theme (and slightly negative admittedly)  I don't want "squad players", I want first team players that would challenge for a place at ******'l, Chelski or Manure. [if this is the case].

I just saw him score a header for real madrid from one of the highlights shown when we bought him. Apart from that...zip...

if the guy was at real madrid and was being tracked by benitez when he was at valencia, then he can't be a bad player imo. it's not his fault that he had the likes of beckham and figo ahead of him in his position.

i just hope he gets fit soon so we can see what he can do. put it this way, he must, and i repeat MUST be better than finnan as an attacking weapon.

Thing is tho he got forced on us cause real didnt want him and benitez was promised Morientes, but he didnt want to leave Real, so we got the bad end of the bargain we will just have to wait and see plus if hes brilliant real will want him back
Lets just see what happens hey folks.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

that was just press speculation. having been the top scorer the previous season in the champions league, the new real coach knew he would be stupid to let him go. the guy's class. better than raul imo. if you think about it logically, owen for 8m+ morientes would have been a bad deal as far as real were concerned. they originally appeared to be offering us juanfran, who is one of the top young strikers in spain but eventually settled on nunez. morientes was nothing short of a dream. :(

I agree with the tads, I mean Stmichael. He obiviously wouldn't had gotten a spot because of the likes of Figo,etc..

If he was a bad player Benitez would had asked for another player instead of him, I think he will be better than having Finnan and Kewell play.

Nunez says Benitez was in negotiations for him before the Owen deal came about so we got him as part of Owen going to Real.

Oh yeah Mike nice t1t5 mate, your mum looks better in real life  :p

I think we all appear to be hoping and are relying on RB's judgement - well I am anyway.  No one has hard evidence of his capability......so far.  Fingers crossed.

If he was at Real (starting xi or not) and RB has confidence in him then I'm sure he will be a good player :)
