i guess if you really want to look for citizisms you could ask why didn't we snap up players like Vaughn, Baxter, or Rodwell, but then again, would these players be getting into our squad anyway?

Interesting post but i dont think you 'busted' any 'myths' there with that post...although I do agree with your general rant at some posters unrealistic expectations of Liverpool producing Owens and Fowlers on a regular basis I am still disappointed that no one has come through the ranks to help the first team in the past five years or so. In that same period how many decent (or better) players have Everton brought through. You say that we cant be using Arsenal as a fair comparison but what about Everton...?

If you take Evertons current squad members - Jack Rodwell, 18 is from merseyside and came through the ranks; James Vaughan, 21 came through the ranks; Dan Gosling, 19 signed aged 18 for next to nothing. These three players will play a significant amount of games this season and almost every season over the last 5 years or so Everton have been using homegrown players or ones bought on the cheap that seem to be eluding LFC. You can make the argument that these players are sh*t and wouldnt get a look in at liverpool but it seems that they are making better use of the resources available and/or have a more successful academy.

I dont mean to be bigging up the blues in any way (so dont even try it!) I just feel like our academy and 'home' scouting deptartment need to be doing more to help the first team squad.

I think if you reall wanted to look for criticisms you would need to look no further than Warnock. We finally get a decent player to come through........ and then sell him!

A couple of years later we pay £7million for a full back who is no where near as good.

I know its not as simple as that, but that seems to be the way ALL CLUBS seem to be heading. Easier to buy a foreign international with experience than to give a player the necessary experience within the club.

At the time we had warnock we had both riise and aurelio at the club plus young insua had just signed - so he is a decent player but those three are better and he wouldnt get much playing time and wanted to leave.

What's mythical is the idea that we prioritise our youth recruitment (whether conciously or not) on the basis of a player's nationality, i.e. in giving considerable favour to foreigners because they are foreign and because foreign is 'fashionable'. Another myth is the idea that some of these youth players who don't have the requisite ability will 'come good' by virtue of giving them first-team opportunities. The last myth is the idea that Rafa has passed up countless opportunities to sign the likes of Ramsay, Walcott, Bostock, Wilshere, etc. We could not have signed them either for financial reasons or because of FA policy. It's a common problem.

The last bit I agree with, which is presumably why Rafa's set about overhauling the Academy.

Just to sum up, of course we could the club have done better in recruiting local youngsters, but is it really Rafa's fault club scouts haven't picked up on some of the players you mentioned?  I don't think it is at all, it was the responsibility of the Academy director and his scouts to spot the best 8-16 year olds. Has Rafa's policy of looking for the best young (16+) foreign talent prevented our local youngsters from developing into first-teamers? Generally, no it hasn't, unless people want to argue that Peltier, Otsemobor, Potter, Mannix and co were in actual fact good enough... in which case I wouldn't see any grounds for a sensible debate. Where we may have done better, and where I accept there is a much greater degree of responsibility on his part, is in his recruitment of the (supposed) best young foreign players in the 16+ age-group. We probably ought to have seen one or two others step up, in addition to Insua. Of the current crop, I'm still hopeful we'll see Pacheco and one other make the grade, and if they don't, well we can sell them and recoup our initial outlay.

Nemeth gave the assist for the only goal in his debut match for AEK Athen, played very well and was chosen for the MOM. Good start from the lad. :D

Here is a video, not a high quality though..

Nemeth is looking very promising and would like him to be tested in the Premier League next season.

i got a bad feeling we gonna let Nemeth slip through our hands just like Pollegone (spelling).
saw both goals, the player/s who passed the through ball seem more impressive.

Not sure about Vaughn or Baxter but I think Rodwell would get into our squad.

Anyway these things happen. It wasn't to long ago Everton let the likes of Fowler slip through their grasp. He wasn't the only one either.
