Ever thought that it might be due to the FACT that we have been playing cr@p, have won only one out of our last 6 before yesterday( against Luton), are below Everton in the league, seen our title challenge die yet again, and yesterday we struggled against a team of part-timers.

I was speaking out about H&G months ago when you were probably still creaming your shorts at the thought of the huge transfer fees and the shiny new stadium.

Lad, before you make these accusations, I'd suggest that you read through some of the older threads here before you jump the gun.... and read Bamaga's post again without the red mist affecting your vision..... there's nothing reactionary or inflammatory there.

My opinion is that Rafa has been fantastic for the club, and has taken us back to the point where we aren't all that far away from being a genuine contender in all competitions.

Yes our league form has been suspect again this season, but the problem is the same as in previous years - tons of possession at times, but the final ball isn't always there, and when it is the finishing isn't always something to be proud of.

Yes, you can look at the personnel we have, and some of Rafa's choices in the transfer market do warrant a quizzical eyebrow on that front. At the end of the day though, I think better crossing and better finishing is all that's keeping us from being in among the top 3. I don't think a new manager and a radical overhaul is needed - I think we're still looking for another striker and another 1 or 2 wingers.

I do take on board the concerns that he's taken us as far as he can, but I'd counter with finger pointing at our ability to close deals that were there for the taking, such as Vidic and to a lesser extent Heinze, and wonder where we'd be if he'd got his way.

If I ran the club, I'd give him £30m for three attacking players, plus funds from the players they were to replace (so potentially £40-£45m), and then give him until the end of his current contract to show that his approach to management can work in the Premier League. I feel like we've got very, very close to exploding into a real force in the league, but now the circus has hit town, the purse strings have been tightened and we're not the finished article.

I think at the very most Rafa will get next season to prove himself. Given that we need to be paying of interest every year now for the refinacing deal any slip ups and it will surley be the last straw for Rafa. Dont get me wrong I respect him and love him for what hes given this club so far but we are crying out for the league here. The league is our bread and butter and every year that goes by where all the others leapfrog us with little or no effort pisses me off. Things need to change and change quick. The like of Carra and Stevie are not getting any younger and there arnt any more local lads of that calibre coming through.

I don't believe are players are as bad as they have been playing, and I don't believe we are as far away from challenging as some seem to think, but we need them to start playing to their full potential, and I am no longer sure Rafa will ever get them to do that in the league.

I don't think we have the players capable to challenging the title mate. Yes we have good players, but some of them are not good enough to play for Liverpool. Lets take our strikers for example, we have 1 out 4 who is more than good enough for Liverpool. The other 3 are either not Liverpool material or just squad players (Crouch or Kuyt) who aren't fit to play every week. Plus, our backline still looks shaky (ok, agger's injury, the sooner he gets back the better it becomes). We need another left back, who isn't injury prone and very good defencively and going forward (I really like aurelio, but too injury prone, unless he consistanly stays fit and healthy then left back is covered).

Benitez has potential to win us the title, it depends on him though, weather he signs the right players and stops overrotating.

I still don't think Mourinho would win us the title quickly, maybe in 2 or 3 years of his tenure, when he builds his own team in his own way.

Rafa has spent approx £50 million on our forwards, not counting the ones that he has tried and moved on.

Kuyt       £10
Voronin    £0

So if we only have 1 who's any good, who's fault is it? Maybe another manager could get more out of them, or more likely sell a couple of them and bring in another good one?

As I said, I am still clinging to faint hopes with Rafa, but I am begining to think maybe he has taken us as far as he can. I just hope I am wrong.

As i said mate i apologise,i feel strongly about certain things and i aint exactly up with Shakespear when commanding Enlgish type!

I have made my view of Benitez quite clear on previous threads and nothing has changed my mind in recent weeks. It really should be his last season with Liverpool.

The support for him is terrific and its refreshing that fans can show such magnificent loyalty to their manager, but as touching as it may be I honestly do not feel that keeping Rafa at Liverpool is the right thing to do.

This group is just not functioning as it should be and his constant tinkering has left them bewildered and lacking confidence. Our play is so mechanical and methodical that there is no room for imagination or expression.

We managed to win yesterday but it was something of an embarssement that this club could fall behind twice in 45 mins to a team from the Blue Square South. Its simply unacceptable.

In my opinion the fans kept Houllier in work a year or two longer than was healthy and we are going down the same old road again with Benitez. This manager is spent on ideas and his best shot has not been good enugh so we shake his hand and move on and there absolutely nothing wrong with that.
