Mascerano set to move? - Platini "favours" transfer.

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby spion » Sat Jan 27, 2007 9:23 am

Michel Platini has spoken about Javier Mascherano's preposed move to Liverpool, reports BBC fivelive.
Platini commented that Benitez had contacted him to offer his congratulations on his appointment to cheif of UEFA. He then said that the Liverpool manager had made a "excellent argument" about the possible transfer of Mascherano from West Ham even though the player has already played for two clubs this season. Platini said, "the player (Mascherano) will not play again this season if he cannot move & for one of the worlds best players this cannot happen", "we have to look after the interests of the players when it means a positive & looking at the transfer its not one of personal monetary gain rather one of personal enhancement". He also said that Benitez was the first manager to call him & that Rafa had been a great "friend" over the last few months.

I'm sure Liverpool will be able to extract more from Mascerano's talents and abilities and do him more justice as a footballer than West Ham had been able to do.

Hope this move goes through as he'd be a pretty good replacement for Hamann.

Platini's election to president of UEFA is quite worrying to me as he wants to reduce (by 2009) England's number of teams in the Champions League to 3. Obviously in the future we would want to be easily in the top 3 but this decission may affect us and we may spend time out of the CL as a result.

then we have to make certain we are in the top 3 every season and no more striving for fourth place.

if the rules say 3 then 3 it is

Totally agree PeeWee but it'll be hard to change the current rules. Its not a one man ship.

I agree that mascherano would make a good replacement for hamman.  I think his game is more similar to didi's than alonso's is.  I think we also need another CM, as 3 is not enough.
I think changing the number of CL places from 4 to 3 won't help the champions league.  While england have 4 top teams to offer (Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool), they should all be allowed in.  Puttin one of them in the UEFA will just make it harder for other clubs to win it.

Agree completely.  He has the potential though.  The role that Hamman played for us is a role that need experience and intelligence.  There are are almost no players who play the role as well as didi.  The ones that come close are older, experienced players.  I think mascherano has the potential to be one of them players.  But currently you are right, he is not even close to hamman
