Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby JBG » Thu Mar 17, 2005 7:07 pm

If we miss out on Champions League football then yes, it will be a major setback for the club but its only one season. Its true that the Champions League is the pinacle of the game and a club of Liverpool's standing need to be in it every year. However, missing out on it next year is not the end of the world. True, it'll mean a tightening of our wallet and some players may want to leave, but perhaps a very major shock is what is required to get the club back on its feet again?

absolutely agree JBG. some reflection in the uefa (and winning it) may be just what we need to get the passion back...

Maybe a shocking bad year (and this season could turn out to be one yet if we fold over on Sunday) where we finish 7th or 8th could be better for us in the long run than scrapping home in 4th place yet again.

A short sharp shock to the club could bring the rapid change in attitudes and perspectives required.

Man UTD had a dreadful league campaign in 1990 but improved rapidly after that, and in 1999 we had a stinker of a year but had a few really good years after that.

So where exactly where the "fans" last night?

Some so called Liverpool fans make me sick. Wednesday night games are so often empty, and there is NO EXCUSE whatsoever for the so called fans who never bothered last night just cus it was on the TV.

I am sick of the idiots who pick and choose the games that they attend.

Ask yourself the following questions.

(If you live outside the UK, so you can not attend the game, then dont bother.)

1)  Are you going to the game on Sunday ?

2)  Did you go last night ?

3)  Could you not make it due to work commitments? Oh right, did you go the Leverkusen home and the Olympiakos home games ? Whats the difference ?

the atmosphere pre match was good with plenty of singing, its only once the game started the place went quiet.
the difference between that game and the european ones is that anyone can basically get a ticket for the european games whilst last night i bet you any money that the empty seats were season ticket holders from outside liverpool who couldnt make it to the game. which is understandable.
just because people dont go the games doesnt mean they aren`t passionate about the club leon. my old man hasnt bothered since the 80`s but before that he went home and away for years, it just sickened him that people were in danger of getting filled in or worse just going to a football match. he still watches them when they are on the box and knows more about liverpool football club than anyone i know. liverpool football club didnt start to exist when you started going leon, some of those `apathetic` fans went to watch them in the old second division and made their way across the country on home made motorbikes because no working class people could afford cars in those days.
as for more scousers being blues, well all my mates are reds and we must have had a lot of visitors when 500,000 turned out to see the three cups in 2001 - considering the official population of the city of liverpool is less than that figure.
evertonians just shout about it more.

I don't think Leon has attacked out of town fans. Everyone read his post again.

I think most people replying have misunderstood what he said.

Nugget! major silly post.

How about people dont like paying 30 quid a ticket all season, to often watch paint dry, as per some of our performances. esp when they have other financial commitments.

Or how about all the fans who go there and dont bother to sing. are they the same as people who dont go?

free world innit.

I'm sick of this kind of thread..blah blah...us and ooters...blah blah  we stand up and sing all game you sit down and watch footy blah blah   I now more cuz I go blah blah

look around....we are all the same...some people stand... some people sit.... some will sing... some will not...some wear red ...some forever incognito...some drink ale ....some drink alcopops........one thing in common we all support Liverpool.

I have always had the utmost respect for any fan of the Reds from where ever they have travelled.

The Figures don't lie and 37,500 fans for the Blackburn game trels its own story.

I'm a season ticket Holder so I don't pick and choose my games but to be honest if i didn't have a season ticket I WOULD Pick and choose my games primarily because of the COST.

I didn't go last night, I also won't be attending this Sunday, does this mean Im a disgrace to the club and not a true supporter??

Did the same people manage to do this for the Leverkusen and Olympiakos games?

Shut the f@ck up then Lee.

Dont disrespect the supporters? That is where you are wrong, as supporters go to the match's home away and abroad, fans go to one game a season.

Supporters put their views forward, and they are valid as they do their bit to support the team.

Fans put their views forward after following the team on the TV and are generally clueless idiots (see banana).

so according to your definition there can only be less than 45,000 supporters of lfc? Thats utter ******.  IMHO just more of "I have a season ticket and you don't."  Get a life
