Le tallec set for black cats

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby El Nino_#9 » Mon Aug 01, 2005 10:13 pm

Sunderland are closing in on the signing of Liverpool youngster Anthony Le Tallec.

The French attacker is primed to join The Black Cats on a season-long loan after holding talks with the Premiership new boys on Monday.

Le Tallec's advisors have confirmed the 20-year-old is poised to move to The Stadium of Light and will undergo a medical on Tuesday.

The forward is being shipped out of Anfield by Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez to continue his footballing education.

He spent the first half of last season on loan at St Etienne but returned to Merseyside after a troubled spell with Les Verts.

Though Le Tallec has played in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers this summer, he is not a prominent member of Benitez's squad.

Anderlecht had been linked with a loan offer for Le Tallec but Benitez feels the player will be better served by staying in The Premiership with Sunderland.

Black Cats boss Mick McCarthy has been looking to add to his squad after the Wearside club won The Championship last term and Le Tallec would be his most high-profile capture to date.

A season long loan in the prem is a good idea for Le Tallec.  I haven't been impressed with him this pre-season and I have previously said that I don't think he will make it at LFC.  I stand by that, but hopefully he can prove me wrong if he has a good season in the prem with sunderland.

i agree, i think that le tallec is premiership class but not for liverpool.
i can see him being a real hit at a team like sunderland.
i rate sinama pongolle a lot more!

do you think this means rafa will sign another striker??

Didn't he say that signing a striker is not a priority today?

Not really been impressed with La Tallec, I know I have said it before but I still think Owen is gonna come back to us and this just adds more fuel!!

i cannot see owen coming back to premier league full stop. i mean liverpool have ruled it out, arsenal have ruled it out and even though manure haven't yet i would be really suprised if they did sign owen.
this is because owen is a player that wants to start games week in week out. at manure they have fatboy (rooney), horseface (van nistelrooy), leeds sellout (smith) and saha.....(feel so sorry for him!)
so i don't see where owen fits into the equation!

good move for him i reckon. still think he has a chance of making it. it somewhat annoys me that we have never really had the chance to see him playing with pongo (oops pardon) for a few games in a row, as they were always said to have an amazing understanding as youth players.

really puzzled me why he was loaned to the french league when i thought it was obvious he needed to get to grips with the physicality of the prem.

i wouldnt hold your breath mate, rafa `s been on radio merseyside tonight saying he`s happy with the strikers he`s got and he`s definately not going to sign owen.
when pushed by a journalist who asked for rafa`s opinion on why owen couldnt get into the real madrid starting eleven despite of his scoring record in spain he replied it was michael owens business and that didnt concern him in the slightest.
i think owen burnt his bridges with rafa when he left.

I figure if we don't sell Milan, we might as well loan him off, its a good call for the lad, loaning him overseas didn't really do him much good.

Good move for Le T.

Sunderland will be fighting relegation. But Le T will get a fair bit of first team football i suppose.
