Channel 4 sunday - Black players in football

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

There's a t.v. programme on monday about the development of black players in football from the humble beginnings to present day.It features John Barnes and Ian Wright amongst others.I was listening to an interview with the producer,on Radio Merseyside today, and some of the stories the show has sounded really interesting.Might be worth a watch.
The first black player was Arthur Wharton, who played for Preston North End in 1890.He was the AAA 100 yard sprint World record holder, first man to record10 seconds, but played in goal so he wouldn't get kicked.
Liverpool's first black player was Howard Gayle but he failed to become a regular first team player despite giving a magnificent display in Munich against Bayern in the semi-final of the European Cup in 1981.He tore their defence to pieces when he came on as sub for King Kenny.
