January 1978 - Transfers

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Leonmc0708 » Sat Jun 16, 2007 6:36 pm

Once again I find myself forced to vent my anger on the web.

I cant beleive the type of players we are being linked with.

I mean Middlesborough of all teams ?

This sourness guy we are supposedly looking at buying, Bill Nichson at Spurs got rid of him, and I think he found his level when he played for Montreal in the pathetic American soccer (I mean what the fu.ck is that) leagues.

We really need to be looking a bit farther a field than Scottish players. They are over priced and over rated.

If we are to win the European Cup again (like that wonderful night back last May) then we need to build.

Disguisted.  :veryangry

You cant blame Paisley for losing Keegan, sack John Smith instead - he should have offered him more money. Not sure this narky scottish g!t's going to work out either - he's too fat.

Really gets on my t!ts that he have to rely on old players like Cally, Smith etc.. to win the European cup plus cheap no hopers, principlly from Scunthorpe United.

The club's gone to pot !

And this guy Dalglish - he might have scored some crackers since the summer, but I feel it's just a flukely year - can't see him getting 30+ this season.  And he'll never do it consistantly - get rid of him.

Fantastic, I love making people feel old. :D

For the record, in Jan 1978 I was 1 month away from being popped out of me mam.

Mull Of f*cking Kintyre was number 1. God I hate that b*stard song.

1978 I think that was the Argentina World Cup with Kempez getting a couple in the final and all the ticker tape all over the pitch. I was twelve, easily old enough to remember Souness who was an absolutely fantastic player. For those younger fans, you could defiantely mention Souness inj the same breath as Gerrard, in fact he was arguably a better player at his very best. That said, I think our captain of today is about as good as I've seen in midfield for Liverpool, what I mean is though Souness is arguably better, it's not being argued by me. Time for me to feck off to bed I think   :D

I remember Souness as a Liverpool player - iron fist in a velvet glove. he does not have Gerrard's lung busting abilities but he is as hard as nails and can mix it with the best of them but he also can pass the ball very well and has an equally good shot with either feet. To top it off, he is a very sore loser and has such a winning mentality that Paisley relieved the captancy off Pinnoccio and gave it to Souness in 1982 but it should have been sooner.

Overall, he is more accomplished than Gerrard has been to date. His Liverpool reputation was tarnished by his disasterous managerial stint but those who remember his playing days should help to remind the younger fans that Souness was one of the best midfielders and captains in Liverpool's history.

Not to mention him selling his life story to the S*n, unbelievably foolish on his part.

As a player Souness is at the very top of LFC - equal to Kenny in my book (and Kenny's book) and better than any of our midfielders today.

I can forgive him for being a poor manager (did his best etc) but the Sun thing means I don't respect the man.

Mind you, some LFC players over the last number of years who seem to be beyond criticism have done stories with the sun (sometimes on England duty)
