Come on man utd! - Have i lost the plot?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Taken from Liverpoolfc.tv.........

Liverpudlians will have good reason to unashamedly cheer a goal scored by Wayne Rooney or any of his Manchester United colleagues against Chelsea tonight.
The newly crowned Premiership champions are closing in on a proud record that has been held by the Reds since 1979.

During what was a memorable title-winning campaign Bob Paisley's team conceded a mere 16 league goals.

Such a remarkable achievement was secured thanks to the outstanding goalkeeping of Ray Clemence, not to mention a formidable defensive unit of Neal, Thompson, Hansen and Kennedy.

It was a feat that looked unlikely to ever be surpassed but Chelsea now stand on the threshold of quashing it. With just two games of their momentous campaign remaining the Londoners have let just 13 Premiership goals slip into their net.

So a goal or three from Rooney and co at Old Trafford tonight should, for once, be greeted with cheers not jeers throughout the red half of Merseyside.

Even if Chelsea do go on and break Liverpool's record, and complete the season by conceding fewer than 16 goals, it is worth noting that back in 1978/79 a league season consisted of 42 games, four more than today.

P!sses me off, Bob Paisley worked hard to achieve what he & the squad achieved, hard graft & the will to succeed. Along comes that Fez head with his big fat bank account and buys Paisley's teams record off them. tw@t.

No problem there Lee,as you stated more games were played in 1979 so the record can never be beaten.Interesing though had the season been 4 games longer would the record still stand, and would we have overhauled Everton.

Just looking forward to watching a neutral game where I hope they kick each other until the cows come home.

Never mind you losing the plot Lee, I hear Ginger Ferguson is getting his players to do one of those lineups where they clap the Chelsea players onto the pitch as the Chelsea players run through them, you know, five on one side and six on the other I presume, what's it called?  Can't think of the word.

Anyway, Ferguson has clearly lost it. :D
