CHELSEA VS LIVERPOOL - We can do it!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Rafa got it all right. Once our game plan needed to change to pure counterattack we put Babel on, he was always going to have more success on his own then Keane and is dangerous while outside the box. As soon as Terry went forward, Rafa put on Hyypia to nullify any possible ariel threat. Lucas on for Kuyt when he got tired.

Not to be negative, but we need to sort out that right-hand side. How many times does the ball get played out wide to free men on the edge of the box. It was our undoing on Wednesday, and we were lucky not to concede from that area today.

Well Keane has been a great buy at 8 million, while Riera seems to be worth the 20 mil we had to pay !

Reina - 6 - nothing to really do, distribution was ok
Arbeloa - 6 Chelsea didn't really get much from their left side, we didn't get much from our right.
Carragher - 9 Fantastic game today, Pants Anelka and stopped everything in the box.
Agger - 8 Solid as a rock all day, couple of runs but nothing major
Aurelio - 6 Nothing going forward dubious in defense.
Mascherano - 7 Solid but not a standout today
Alonso - 9 Brilliant  game, scored the winner, hit the post from a free kick, bossed the midfeild.
Kuyt - 7 Did a good job defensively, could have been more lively going forward.
Gerrard - 9 Some brilliant passing and vision, nearly an unbelievable left foot goal
Reira - 7 Brilliant first half disappeared in the second.
Keane - 5 Tough job but was anonomous
Subs
Babel 7 Came on and had an impact, the super sub looked dangerous
Lucas - 6 not much to talk about
Hyypia - 7 Some nice headers in the last few minutes

Jamie Carragher has refused to get carried away after helping Liverpool break Chelsea's 86-match unbeaten record at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool moved three points clear at the top of the Premier League after Xabi Alonso netted the only goal of the game, and Carragher admits the result should help give the Reds a massive confidence booster for the rest of the campaign.

"Before today Chelsea were playing as well as anyone in Europe. To come here and win should give our confidence a boost but we realise there's a long way to go yet," said the Reds defender.

"Their record was never going to go on forever, they were always going to lose at some point, and I'm just glad it was us who managed to beat them.

"We are top of the table but as I said, there's a long way to go. Over recent years Chelsea and United have been towards the top and ourselves and Arsenal are trying to get involved and challenge. Hopefully we can bridge the gap this season."
"I certainly wouldn't say I'm the best manager in the business, but I'm in the top one."

This make our next two games must wins, they are not going to be easy, i dont care what you might say about that but they are not.
both of our next teams are having a hard time but one of them should not be were ther are and can still play good football and with Harry there they will be a much better team.
Harrys old club are in shock and there is a good team bond there and they will back eachother up on the field,

if we dont take 6 points then this will will still look good but the points start to mean nothing.

Carragher was MOM by a mile. I thought Gerrard was ineffective initially but as the game grew he came into his own like he always does.

The combination of the Babel and Hyypia substitutions were spot on. Rafa clearly identified the coming Chelsea dominance for the final 10 and put two players to combat that threat. Hyypia to tower the back with the flurry of long balls and Babel to exploit the space left in Chelsea's defence.

Gerrard was an absolute rock tonight. He dipped off a bit as the game went on but it must have been due to fatigue. I would go as far as to say that was some of the best play I have ever seen from him; strong when on the ball, spot on with his passes (especially some of the long ones), and tricky with his decision making always keeping the opposition guessing.
