Just makes this game all the more important. I can see both teams coming out of the gate a little more offensive minded to take advantage of Man Utd's dropped points.

Chelsea will definatley be coming out on the attack. You only have to look at their goal difference to see how attacking they are this season. And we normally concede early to them too. My prediction is we will either win or get pasted. No draw!

If we don’t lose this game then people will start believing for real that we are title contenders. Chelsea have been the outstanding team this season, and considering the way we were run ragged in the second half of the Atletico Madrid game, a draw coupled with a strong performance would turn heads.

If we give their fullbacks the freedom to attack we are going to get murdered. Considering how dodgy are full backs are, we need to keep their fullbacks pinned back by playing two natural wide men, that is why I would go with Pennant and Riera. By holding shape they will force the Chelsea fullbacks to hold their positions more often.

But at the same time we need to be able to compete with the 3 man central midfield which will probably consist of Lampard, Deco and Mikel. Gerrard, Alonso and Mascherano operating in the centre should mean that they are unable to play through the centre.

If Keane and Babel are not fully fit we can use them as impact subs later on in the game. One thing Kuyt will do is work their centre backs.

Don’t think this is the game for Agger, we hasn’t looked great so far, would prefer Hyypia in there alongside Carragher, I’m sure his aerial ability and general defensive awareness will come in use more than Agger’s ability to bring the ball out.

                             Reina

Arbeloa      Carragher      Hyypia      Aurelio

            Gerrard   Mascherano  Alonso
Pennant                                        Riera

                            Kuyt

Subs

Keane
Babel
Benayoun
Lucas
Dossena
Agger
Cavalieri

Yeah thats a great idea.Considering Pennant is about as defencely deficient as an Ox pregnant with triplets,we should play him there, just to annoy ourselves?

Pennant offers NOTHING in way of cover for anyone mate,he is average at best!I want Kuyt on the  right.I will go as far to say that IF we get a result,Kuyt will play a huge part in it!

first off.. i dont think that playing one striker to pin back their back line would be the smartest of movs by Rafa...
theyr missing quite a few players and im sure some of the players theyr gonna put out against us wont be fully fit so id rather we go with 2 upfront because honestly.. every single time we;v tried playing our 4-2-3-1 this season it hasnt worked and we had to go back to the 4-4-2 to get anything...
i think we should put out our best lineup and start what seemingly is our best formation atm...

id go for

                              Reina

Arbeloa        Carragher         Hyypia       Agger

Pennant         Gerrard           Alonso       Riera

                      Kuyt           Keane

Agger at leftback if only to keep dossena as far away from the pitch as possible... Dont know if aurelio is fit or not yet but i think that Agger would be best deployed in a wider position where he could help out the central pairing of alonso and gerrard in bring the ball out of our areas without greatly risking our defensive shape...

anyways... i think that it'll be hard to get anything out of the game and the best thing i can see Rafa doing is treating it like an away champions leage knockout game where you set out trying to go for a 0-0 draw and look to snatch one late on...
Again.... only way i can see us beating them is if they arent good or fit enough to beat us...

:O

pennant the best option we have down the right side...
just cause he doesnt run around tackling like gerrrard and mascherano do doesnt mean that he cant or doesnt do his duties in tracking back and pressing fullbacks and wingers... he does it and he does it more often than most wingers do...

:kungfu:

i think that kuyt should play upfront no matter how we set up... i want to see him pressing their center backs and goalie because i believe that if we can stop them from building up their play as comfortably as they have been in recent games we take away a huge part of their game... they dont play the long balls to Anelka and look for him to hold it up and bring other players in.. 9 times out of 10 they pass it around and across until they can find an opening and its that sort of space and time that we cant afford to give them if we'r to get anything of this game... press higher up imo and force them into trying out things theyr not as good at...

Hmm..

would you pick benayoun or ElZhar ahead of Pennant for the chelsea game ?
Or would you rather we play N'gog upfront and switch kuyt back to the right flank where -and lets be perfectly clear about this- he's pretty shtty to say the least when part of a 4 man midfield !

all in my opinion ofcourse   :shifty

Number 9 runs and burys his head down a toilet in fear that everything he does may be scrutinised and taken the wrong way!
He blames the Yanks, then again they all have a really great sense of humour so it may not be the end of the world!

Oh no, I agree with you.  I would prefer Pennant in this game, he's scored against Chelsea before  :D.  Why did I do that?  Not really sure, maybe so hopefully a Pennant debate wouldn't get fueled (not that would even help  :p).  Or maybe just a secret +1, who knows.

Ok, so at the moment there is a 5 hour time different between my time zone and yours.  (EST, eastern united states).  Now there will be a 4 or 6 hour difference?  I'm trying to look it up, but my girl swears that you don't change your clocks, even after I found the schedule that it changes by!  Originally I was scheduled to wake up at 8:30 am for the match, any of you math geniuses know what time now?

It'll be a 4 hour difference. At 10pm ET, it will be 2am GMT.
