I've installed a patch on Oblivion to cure some of the glitches in the game. I've continued with the game but the glitches remain. Do I have to actually restart a new game in order for the patch to work ?
I got the updates from the Shivering isle expansion rather than from the patches. I didn't have to restart my game for the glitches to be cured though.
I did patch Shivering isles however and that patch didn't need a restart to work either.
Unless you are getting a really irritating or unplayable glitch I would just continue mate. I have played the game a few times without any patches and never had a problem. Patches take away the "dupe glich" as well which is one of the most useful things in the game.
Then there is the problem of patches causing more problems than they solve. The patch for the x-box360 is causing all sorts of problems at the moment from slow loading to game breaking freezes.
On the computer game, as long as you haven't already run into a particular glitch, the patch will sort it without restarting a game, if however you have run into a particular problem (sinking through the floor or something) you will need a restarted game to cure it.
My advice. just carry on if possible and forget patching mate.
If you do get Shivering Isles, you will definitely need to patch that though Woof, as there's a bug in that, that crashes the game after so many hours play.

Use the feedback system mate. Its not going to get the fella a 3 month stretch. But at least if you file a complaint (and avoid him for future reference) thats one less scrote to worry about. Unfortunately Live will always have these people. I usually bite my tongue and give em a bad rep afterwards - or quit.
Similarly, keep tabs on your own 'rep' to see how you are doing. I'm not sure about a ban for using foul language, but i have heard that if your reputation suffers consistent black marks over a period of time, then Microsoft could be monitoring that situation. Who knows what might happen. They tend to make a pigs ear of everything else...so just play it safe i suppose.

Cheers Saint. I've got the shivering isles expansion plus the knights of nine , they came with my copy of oblivion
.
I've got a glitch in one of the quests (Harluns watch) ,apparently because I'd explored the location before the quest was assigned something thats supposed to be there (a body) isn't, Although the map marker is indicating that it is. Unable to complete the quest and therefore can't get further contracts from fighters guild.

Mm, I have both the PC and Xbox 360 versions, woof, but I completed the Xbox version and I'm not sure what advice to give you other than to say to go back to a previous saved game.

Go to your friends list by pushing the big X on the pad. Push across once the menu pops up. It's a controller icon. Once you've hit the button, you'll see a list pop up. This is a list of all the people you've just recently played. Find the tw@t that you want to file a complaint on and click on his name, then from there you can give him a rep or file a complaint.

If you haven't already loaded Shivering isles, I would do that as it has all the latest updates. If you have already loaded Shivering Isles and it hasn't cured it, get patch 1.1 and use that, its an old patch but was made for that particular glitch. Other than that do the rest of the Fighters guild quests another time and just get on with the rest of the game. (frustrating I know but not as bad as going back to being a wimp 10 levels ago
)

Might be the only option JB but it means losing hours and hours of realtime gameplay and a drop of at least ten levels in status. a real p'isser, I've closed all the gates and I'm currently Head honcho in the Thieves guild and the Mages guild, in addition I'm "The Champion of Cyrodill and Arena Grand Champion.
Arrrrrrrrrggggh

If all else fails, open the console and type setstage FGC10Swamp 40 and you will get the message that you found the bodies. The quest will continue normally from there. Don't use this unless you're at that part in the quest and the patch did nothing for you, or else it'll screw over your Fighters' Guild career.
If you need any help using the console Woof just ask.
