Ah Erasure. Andy Bell and Vince Clarke, formerly of Depeche Mode and then Yazoo. I did think "Only You" by the latter was a pop classic with it's plink plonk plink synthy riff. Never really bought into Erasure though, probably as much for fear of being labelled a raging homosexual as for not really liking the admittedly agreeable music.

I think a better (and I'm not starting a row here) gay pop duo were the Pet Shop Boys. Some classic tunes they did, "Being boring" being (obviously) one of my faves. I also like that one they did with Dusty Springfield "what have I done to deserve this", (I obviously like that one too ).

I was and am a fan of many eighties bands. The Pet Shop Boys did some remarkably good songs, my favourites being between It's a Sin, Domino Dancing, C'est La Vie and their take on Elvis' "Always on My Mind." Human League were a bit different, and their song "Human" is sheer brilliance. Erasure had the edge with vocals,despite some bizarre lyrics, much like A-ha, who were oddly brilliant.

One band I've always struggled to "bond" with is Spandau Ballet. Everything they did was extreme boredom in the guise of a song...

I think they were trying to compete with Duran Duran by taking a more "elegant" approach, but in reality they did absolutely nothing for me whatsoever.

Duran Duran - get the Wild Boys tape on, sharpish...

I saw Duran Duran in Leeds, unbelieveable show. First concert I ever saw was ABC at the futurist theatre in Scarborough, all shiny gold suits and orchestra, absolutely mindblowing.

I agree on Spandau Ballet, cockney w@nkers. I di though like Gold, and particularly the "sorry that the chairs are all worn" line. You mentioned Pet Shop boys and "Domino Dancing" was one I'f forgot about, great record that. I think I'm right in saying "human" which was a great record wasn't actually written by them but some producer in America. "Come on baby dry your eyes" etc, lovely tune.

Another band which I liked very much was World Party. Guy Chambers was in that, the fella who wrote all the best Robbie Williams songs. Course the Smiths when they were on the go were f.ucking briliant as well. The only band who could make you laugh out loud while you were listening to their songs. And people said they made depressing music , fecking Morrisey was a comedian of his time.
