Never even heard that he killed himself.
I particularly enjoyed 'The Rum Diary' and obviously 'Fear and Loathing...' although it was somewhat ruined by watching the awful film.
People will no doubt denigrate him but anyone who can change journalism to the extent he did deserves rest.
