Massive dissapointment considering it will be the last softball medals at the olympics for a while. It probably should have never become an olympic sport. But I don't see why baseball has to be cancelled. The olympics should try and work out something with Major League Baseball to allow the stars to play. It would be a very competitive tournament between Japan, USA, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Venezuela.

Also, I don't understand why tennis is in the olympics and not golf.

I am pretty sure the home contry can have a hand in picking the sports, maybe we will see some 20/20? :D

I agree that softball as an olympic sport is a bad idea, and that baseball should still be allowed.  If they have such events as kayaking and badmitton than baseball should remain.

As far as Bolt goes, I don't think I've ever seen such a dominant performance from any athlete ever.  To win the 100 by 5 meters while coasting the last 20 was amazing.  He'll kick himself later in life though when he realizes that he could have been another quarter second faster.

you dont think phelps was more dominant than bolt? a big talking point but swimming just doesnt get the props it deserves. So Bolt can run for 10 or 20 seconds, hardly makes him a king. Phelps did it EIGHT times, so he gets my vote for man of the games.

Bolt is a genius, dont get me wrong, but what Phelps did was just impossible to replicate. someone one day will come along and berak the 100 and 200, it'll happen, but for someone else to get 8 medals in one games, cant see it EVER happening

I have seen the best basketball game of my country in my life. We lost 107-118 against USA, but I saw USA very worried, and I saw them getting the match to NBA parameters with the refs allowing it. That's good enough for me. At least they couldn't win arrogantly and they know they have to give their best to win.

Saw that too.... Well In Espana... Really please for them
Held their own against those arrogant NBA superstars.

I can't stand watching the NBA these days with all the thrash talk and showboating going on.... seems like those guys are more interested in looking cool than to actually play the game the way it's supposed to.

I used to love watching it when Dr J then Magic and Larry Bird and then Michael Jordan, Hakeem and Barkley was playing.... these days its just a bunch of arrogant tw@ts.

Thanks Conn. I don't want Joe gets me wrong, I do think USA are the better team and were better. When we closed up 2 points down, the inevitable 3 pointers from Kobe or Wade came.

But I think it would be fair for the future to set up some FIBA rules in the olympics. You could see many travelling fouls (4 steps) in the americans, but that's allowed there and has been allowed here.

I'm just happy we gave them a match, because yesterday I saw the game of Los Angeles 84 and I realised how much the european basket has improved. Back then we were battered 96-51 or something like that. That university guys were Jordan, Pat Ewing, Chris Mullin and great stars, but those great player at 19, were less of a team than the current USA profesional team in the olympics. Only Barcelona 92 team, with the players you mention plus Pippen was better IMHO

As for the attitude, well, Barkley was a guy that liked some rows aswell eh? :D  I really remember some glory moments of him... but he was loved more aswell, those Lebron James are a different kind of arrogance.

:D

Charles was a right character with the temper tantrums... but the lad had heart and he didn't let all the money in the world interfere with his game. 100% effort and heart... every game.

Agree with you on the travelling rules.... FIBA should standardize it to one which almost everyone else in the world follows.

Anyway, I'm generally of the opnion that the olympics should remain in the domain of the amatuers.... If winning the Olympics is not the pinnacle of your career, you shouldn't be allowed in.... also has the added advantage of us not losing players for the start of the season!  :D

Completely unbiased opinion of course!

Probably the olympics is one of the few things that human as a whole do well. It's a great event. It wouldn't be as great if it wasn't every 4 years. A bit gutted too!
