I know this has probably been done on here 100 times, but I was going to start reclaiming my bank charges from my bank and I was wondering has anyone else done this and got them back or is it a waste of time?? I have worked out that over the last 5 years they owe me round about £5,000 in charges. Any help would be appreciated.

Simple:

Monthly
1 direct debit fails = £35
1 cheque bounces = £35
1 late payment = £35

12 months = £1260

3-4 years of something similar = £3780 to £5040

And thats just on one account.

wow.

I'm usually good at spending less than I make. My bank has zero bank charges if you pay three bills a month through their internet service and keep your balance above Euro 500 (about £350). Not bad.

I assume you shopped around for the bank with the least charges. You have to watch all that stuff like a hawk or they'll fu*k you up the ar*e (technical term :D )

Bank charges are a disgrace , one of the biggest being they charge you £25 for sending you a letter to let you know you're overdrawn ! If you're overdrawn how the f'uck do they think you're gonna pay the additional £25 ? .

On the other hand it's not to difficult to arrange an overdraft facility , all you have to do is ask . Provided your account is usually ok they'll give you one.

Its very easy to your bank charges to amount to over 5 grand. What happened to me was I was putting my money in the bank to cover direct debits at the right time then the bank would take out their bank charges even though they gave me a date on which they would take their charges. That would leave me short in paying my direct debits. Next thing I would get hit with a direct debit return (which in my bank is £38). I had a £250 overdraft with them too and everytime I went over it they charged me £50. This mounts up over the years and I'm really hoping I will get back something. I dont want all of it but some would be nice.
