The Nazis would have would have won if it wasn''t for the yanks so a bit of respect please.

LOL

Nazis would have won if they hadnt been stupid enough to attack Russia six weeks late . Which was only due to Germans  having delay their invasion timetable , to help out  Italians who had stuffed their invasion of Greece.
So really its Italians who stuffed it all up

Last time I looked Yanks (who have nice little economic class divide going btw) were stealing gold reserves of England with lend lease and it was actually Germans who declared war on them

Football really is like WW2     :D

Unfortunately our best player gets homesick if he is away from California for too long (Donovan), Our next best player is our keeper, who, well, he's a keeper, impact on a game can't always be felt for the good.

Dempsey seemed to get alot of credit for the fate of the US team this World Cup, but for me the straw that stirred the drink was Michael Bradley.  I think he is a fine young player and don't be surprised if you hear alot more about him in the next few years.

Politics aside, I thought the US looked a decent side and had that nice underdog dimension to them that I always have a soft spot for, so I was disappointed to see them go out.  With that said, I like that Ghana make the QFs on African soil and are carrying the banner for the continent.  They're a tidy little side who might just pull it off against another surprise outfit in Uruguay.  I expect either will ultimately get done by the Brazilians or Dutch but fair play to them for getting to this stage.

Well said Bob, I actually thought after the first half of today's match that Ghana were the best side the US had to face up to that point in the tournament.

Granted the England match was the opener for both teams, Ghana just looked so much more threatening and cohesive than England looked against the US.

Throw in the fact they are fighting for an entire continent, that is the host, I think Ghana will be a tough nut to crack.

If anything, this World Cup's proved that there's no push-overs out there anymore, mate.  Hell, even North Korea gave the Brazilians a game before packing it in and we saw what the likes of the Kiwis, Slovaks and even the hosts accomplished.  I like this trend and I hope it continues in the knockout stages.

As for the US, I think it's fair to say that they are becoming a fixture at the World Cup and will give anyone in the world a game on their day.  I went to the Under-21 World Cup in Ottawa a couple of seasons ago and saw the likes of Altidore and Bradley for the first time.  They certainly did not look intimidated or out of place up agains the likes of Aguero or Pato (although they're not at that level as individuals).  You should be proud of your side, mate, and I won't be surprised if they're ready to take the next step in Brazil in 2014.

I think USA can go out with heads held high, they were certainly for me entertaining underdog outfit that punched above their weight. My Aussie bias is probably showing but I like seeing footballing smaller sides doing well

Stuff the elite, good luck to Ghana  :D

I'm definitely proud of the effort, maybe a little too soon to completely forgive Bob bradley for starting Ricardo Clark, but recognizing his error (aided by the threat of possibly going down to ten men) and making an early sub to try to rectify the mistake scores some points.

I'd sum up this US team and their effort by saying, Very good Athletically, but not good enough in footballing terms.  IMO Bradley, Donovan and Howard are the only three true footballers in the side, Dempsey is marginal, hate to say it but that's what I think.

Nerd Alert!!!  An hour later I was wondering if I had spelled this correctly and was actually worried about it so I ended up pulling out the dictionary to check.

I'm still trying to drink the loss  away, it's not working, and trust me, I'm giving it my best effort.  The match ended more than eight hours ago.  I'm still trying to even feel "OK" about it.

Thing is though, USA have already eliminated England by way of winning the group and forcing England into their customary defeat by the Germans

So laugh it up mate... I know I am

see you this time tomorrow John.

Seriously  :)

We'll see...

Was only half serious to be honest.  Germany have been average since their first game while England showed signs of improvement against Slovenia.  Should be a good game, pity I'm working but hopefully catch some of it.

The Germans just find that something extra in tournaments though, so I have them slight favourites.

as if it wasn't enough that U. S. A. dominate most other sports they have to start getting good at football as well. they played some really nice stuff at times and with players like altidore and bradley its obvious that there is a solid base in youth in the country. for the sake of the tournament i'm glasd to see the african side go through but i'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of team america in future world cups.

They're a decent side and they did a decent world cup but I don't see them anywhere near doing the big step in 2014.

In fact, I'm still waiting the African revolution that was announced in 1990, when experts said when watching Cameroon and Nigeria that African teams would dominate the football of this decade.
