I think he'll be on stand-by. Could be worth the risk, but only if injuries don't get better.

from BBC news:

Aaron Lennon and Theo Walcott are in England's provisional World Cup squad, but Shaun Wright-Phillips, Jermain Defoe and Ledley King miss out.
Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing and Bayern Munich's Owen Hargreaves are other surprise inclusions in Sven-Goran Eriksson's 23-man squad.

Injured pair Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen are also included.

More to follow.

I'm surprised AJ got in ahead of Darren Bent.  I suppose he'll be at a big club next season, so Sven might as well blood him (if injuries mean he gets called up).  Lennon and Walcott made a late charge too.  I'm not surprised about Wallcott though.  He could be a talisman to replace Rooney.

and andy johson above bent...? pure madness! we're going to the world cup with 2 fit strikers, and a championchip striker on stand by! i think this is sven's statement of intent:

"im going to play out the rest of my days as england manager as someone who is actulally insane"

jenas and hargreaves should be nowhere near any england squad. glad to see downing in there though.

as for taking walcott, it's a gamble all right. the guy hasn't kicked a ball since signing for arsenal if i'm not mistaken.

Isnt it srange in his last tournament he is prepared to take a risk.If he had of moved his @rse in previos tournaments we might of actually won something.Iam not particularly over the moon with Mclaren, but the sooner this fu.king idiot spews it the better.

lennon and walcott are brave choices tho in fairness to the boring swede.
SWP not even in the call up 5 so if he doesnt put a transfer request in soon hes an idiot

Walcott is a very big gamble in my book. Not 1 minute of premiership football this season.

Crouch is the only fit striker who has played competative football this season... and while he maybe one of our own - he ain't exactly prolific is he???

Good to see lennon in the squad, I rate him higher than SWP, and think we would be alot better off playing £14M for him rather than SWP
