right thats it, throw ins, whats all that about? the ball gets hoofed off the pitch, the other teams player picks it up, puts the ball behind his head ffs and tries to lob it at one of his own!?! meanwhile the opposition lurk like him off the silence of the lambs, waiting for the recipient to try and control some bizzare passing charade(sp)!. Its daft, why oh why does the modern game still require teams to have to put the ball back in play this way? why does no-one mention its outdated and inept? Place the ball on the deck and restrict a pass to within 20yards, thats it, job done, you boot the ball in the stand and the opposition have a chance of retaining it. Vote!

Bored today Neil?  While we're at  why don't we have a gaelic football style goal with three points for over the bar and six for getting it in the net?

Oh yeah - cos then it wouldn't be football! :D

Seriously, turning throw ins into free kicks has got to be the worst idea I've heard for a while.  It will slow down play and create a nigtmare for ref's to say the ball went 19.5 yards not 20 etc.  Will we see teams building a wall if the 'throw in's in the final third?

well if thats the calibre of debate aimed at retaining the throwin I must be correct. You obviously feel Chandlers(ex tranmere) launch into the box from 50 yards was good footy.

Whether or not it's good football its a part of the game that has developed over the years and right now there are more important areas of football that need attention like the unfairess of the transfer market and the removal of racism. :buttrock

Okay thats me getting down of my soapbox  :D  :D

I'm pretty sure there is room for some light hearted discussion on a particular aspect of the game here. Basically you guys are sayin that because it has been with us forever then thats good enough for you?

So he'll kick it 50 yards into the box.... and the difference is? ???

20 yards or 50 yards principle is the same. Not many that can throw a ball 50 yards anway of course - still no reason to get rid of throw ins.

You've yet to argue why a free kick situation would be better.

I dont see why it has to be thrown from behind the head with both hands. Thats b*llocks. A one-arm lunge would make it a better prospect! :D

to me its ridiculous that outfield players are allowed to use their hands for a throw in, the rules should remain consistent and forbid it. that would leave us with only the goalkeeper able to take throw ins which is obviously a bit stupid.

therefore i would favour the head in. the player has to place the ball on the deck, take a run up and launch himself at it, trying to get as much distance as possible with a diving header.

If it goes into the crowd they should just lob it back on the pitch and get on with it.  It'll give Chelski fans something to do as they usually sit there motionless.

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.        BILL SHANKLY
