The name football makes more sence for this sport, yet I'm so used to calling it soccer. What is your opinion?

Which sports have the longer history ?

Perhaps to accomodate themselves, the term "Soccer" must have been coined by an American.

If I am not mistaken the form of football played by normal people the world over is called "Association Football". I think it should still be so, if you look at FIFA.

This beautiful game is played 90% involving the feet and 10% with the other parts of the anatomy except the arm and hands.

If I am not mistaken, the olive-shaped ball is normally  clutched 90% with the hand, arms and less than 10% contact with the feet.
Since the aim of the game is to maim an opponent, why not call it, "Clutchball" and finally spare the rest of the world this indulgence.

I often read the New York Times reports of the prem league matches, its the funniest thing on the net. Boston Goals, brilliant.
The man who came to merseyside from Newcastle, the man who says he's part of Liverpool as much as the Liver building. When he was needed Alan Kennedy was there. And with now just 8 minutes to go it could be that Alan Kennedy has made a little history.

I live in America and its very annoying that everyone calls it soccer, just makes me throw up everytime.

For some reason America couldn't come up with an original name so they took the name "football" and came up with the crappiest word in the English dictonary, "soccer".

Football.

Why do Americans call American football "football" when 99% of that game revolves around everything else but the foot?

the americans make a mockery of the language which WE INVENTED. it really p#sses me off when i'm using word and it claims i've made a spelling mistake because i haven't used the "american spelling".

stmike, english is a variation of old briton, with influences from arabic, french, german, russian, danish, and several other cultures. so in fact the english language was invented by us, merely adapted to best fit our culture
