Well, if he is going, it's better to have a bidding war than Barca low-balling us...

If Phil is going to leave I'd much rather he went to PSG than Barcelona, especially after Barca's dirty tricks campaign last summer.

Unless a deal is already done with Barcelona I would head to PSG if I was Couthino, the Man City of the Champions League.

Football map is changing and Barcelona and Real Madrid are in peril from Paris.

As for us generally there seems to be a back and forth in media blaming FSG and Klopp for our problems, pressure on both.

From todays Sunday Mirror

Liverpool board promise Jurgen Klopp every penny if Philippe Coutinho leaves for £130million in January

The Reds are bracing themselves for another move from Barcelona for the Brazilian

Jurgen Klopp has been told by Liverpool’s owners that he will be given all the money from the sale of Philippe Coutinho.

The Anfield club are braced for another £130million bid for Coutinho in January with Barcelona confident they can finally land the playmaker.

And all the money received will be given to Klopp for rebuilding – starting with Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements after some erratic displays which have seen the club fall off the pace in the title race.

Southampton will demand £70m for the Dutch defender but, if Liverpool give Coutinho the green light to go, that will trigger an immediate move for Van Dijk – and still leave cash spare to search for ways to replace the Brazilian star.

In the summer they were publicly adamant the gifted South American was going nowhere. And despite huge bids from Barcelona, FSG stuck to their guns and refused to give in even though Coutinho made it clear he wanted to leave.

Now though, after talks with Klopp, Liverpool’s position is less beligerent with the Anfield boss believing it’s no point holding on to a player who ultimately wants to leave.

Probably a good thing that we accept the inevitable sooner rather than later, ie get the best price possible whilst Coutinho's stock is still high and move on with team rebuilding.

Meanwhile in the Sunday Express

BARCELONA will enrage Liverpool by continuing their pursuit of Philippe Coutinho as soon as the transfer window opens in January.
The Catalan giants were told in the summer that the Reds wouldn't welcome any more interest in the Brazilian play maker after rejecting three bids.

But he is still top of Barca’s winter wanted list and Nou Camp bosses believe that they can get their man for around £132 million with a down payment of £75 million.

That however is someway short Liverpool’s £176 million valuation but Barca are ready to play hardball over the fee knowing that they are the only buyers on the market.

Coutinho, 25, has set his heart on a move to Spain and has told Paris Saint-Germain that he isn’t interested in a move to the French capital.

He demanded a transfer request in a hope of pushing through the move but Liverpool stood firm and refused to do business.

They were hoping that Coutinho would stay at Anfield until next summer when they would reluctantly listen to offers for the star.

Coutinho’s agent Kia Joorabchian has been working hard behind the scenes to broker a deal and Liverpool will be furious that Barcelona are ready to make further bids for him.

if Coutinho goes it will be the same old problem though, anytime we unearth a player of genuine quality someone comes along and takes him off us. Yes we might get good money for him but we got good money for Torres, Suarez, Sterling etc too.
If selling your best player is the way forward the likes of City and Chelsea would be looking to sell KDB and Hazard.

If they do sell coutinho in January it will write our season off  :nod They stood firm in the summer but only because they would have faced a serious backlash off the fans if they let him go. They don't have to sell in January either so why do it ?
Answer = Money And they are afraid of their shyte Barca will walk away from the deal and leave them hanging. They will not spend another summer chasing him so its do or die in January and that's why we will sell. He wanted out in the summer and has since knuckled down and performed so he will continue like that for the rest of the season.
Are we sell to buy ? Beginning to look like that anyway and even if they give him every penny of the fee it won't be spent. They haven't managed to address anything in the windows he has had so what makes anyone think this time will be any different.
Selling your best player in the middle of a season is the stupidest decision ever. I can't believe we would even consider that but should it go ahead Klopp will be under serious pressure for the rest of the season.

I'd let him go in the summer, but have his replacement lined up so we don't get mugged off on the price.

No point in holding a player who's head has been turned.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't pull out all the stops to try and catch them though Mark. A midfield 3 of Coutinho, Keita and someone like Goretzka would deffo be a match for City's and Chelsea's midfield. All we would have to do is keep Coutinho and buy Goretzka, surely a club of our size is capable of doing that?

Our failings in the transfer windows is the reason world class players leave us.. We did everything last year to finish 4th after a net spend of ZERO, Couts probably thought we'd buy some big names to play with this season .. and we bought no one! I don't blame him for wanting to leave, we showed zero Ambition in the transfer window and now it's showing in our league position.

Zero ambition is a bit harsh UvS, if Red Bull and Southampton would have been prepared to let Keita and Van Dijk go in the summer the club would have deffo stumped up the £130m.

We've been linked today with Mexican wonderkid Diego Lainez who looked good in the world cup under 17s scoring 2 against England.

He plays alot like Coutinho on his highlight videos.

Gomez will be loaned out and then sold on in a year or two. He has 2 seasons now with Klopp and struggles to get a kick in the first team so the writing is on the wall. I know Joe has had a few niggly injuries here and there but Jurgen still overlooked him in favour of Lucas and even Can at CH. If Klopp thought he was good enough then he would have played him and certainly wouldn't be considering loaning him out.
Once he goes out on loan that's him finished here imo which is a shame as he looked a decent player and a good defender.

Few niggly injuries? Gomez tore his cruciate ligament the week Klopp joined the club and then messed up his achilles last summer. He was in recovery for over a year and wasn't available to play. He's only really been available for games since the beginning of 2017. And sure, Klopp chose Klavan and Lucus over him on a few occasions, but that doesn't mean he has no future here. If we can bring in a centre back a loan move to PL club were he can play regularly at CB would be a great move. He is very inexperienced. Only played a couple of dozen games for Charlton and a few games for us.

Good to see Gomez getting some regular game time here at Liverpool under Klopp and working his way back to 100%.
