Instead of building the Millennium Dome, the government and private corporations should have paid for new football stadiums to be built for Liverpool, Everton, Brighton etc and various sporting arenas, ice rinks, gymnasiums, swimming pools, athletic stadiums, sporting academies and so forth around the UK, as ways of regenerating areas and communities which can generate profit and business opportunities, since more people in this country are interested in sport rather than visiting a giant white dome aimed at promoting British Telecom.
Creating these as part of a "Millennium Project" would also have been helpful towards providing potential British sportsmen and women with world class training facilities and also developing infrastructure for future Olympic, World, and European event bids.
