you would think that he'd know ???

i think whelan is a bit more in the loop in terms of whats going on with his own manager than that joker off talksport.

It'z a bizarre way to do it - be pressured by the Wigan chairman to hold talks now rather than the schedule round of interviews next week. Regardless of whether Martinez is the right person for the job why should Liverpool's priorities be dictated to by the priorities of Wigan Athletic?

I wonder if the owners will not be swayed by this pressure and not make a decision until everyone has been formally interviewed and whether Martinez will decide that regardless of what happens with Liverpool his relationship with the Wigan chairman has come to an end.

I don't think it's clear cut at all that a decision has been made.

in other words you can hire as many DoF`s as you want but keep them away from first team affairs.
he`s gone up a bit in my estimation for that anyway.
after finishing 6th, 7th and 8th in our last 3 seasons and considering he is going to be our 4th manager in 2 years i would have prefered a bigger name and someone with more experience of competing at the top of the table rather than a perennial relegation fighter but FSG have decided thats the road they want to go down.
on the bright side as a bevvying partner of ferguson i suppose he can always phone him up and ask his advice if things arent going well

Right dude, your gonna have to provide sources for just about every single sentence up there.

If Martinez gets the job, he gets the job and I hope he becomes a success here.

If he can sign genuine quality and have us playing some fantastic football with positive results and plenty of progression then his appointment will be a success and us supporters will be happy, I don't think appointing Martinez is a great risk to the club. The people who say he's relegation fodders are simply ignorant to the hardships faced with trying to avoid relegation.

The Telegraph is reporting tonight that it will cost Liverpool £2 million compensation to prise Martinez away from Wigan. Also an appointment is not thought to be imminent as Rodgers and Van Gaal are also likely to be interviewed in the coming days.

I'd be less worried about Rodgers as our next manager to be honest though I can't see Van Gaal being passed over for the job unless the owners only want Van Gaal for the DOF post.

I also think that Martinez probably doesn't think that he's ready for a club like Liverpool and is hoping to extract something from Randy Lerner with the Liverpool talks, hence the mind games from Dave Whelan.

in all fairness whelan confirmed pretty much that on his recent clock in with ssn.
he said that roberto likes to have control over everything at the club,1st team reserves and the youths along with who comes and goes.
as you said its his head on the block if it goes pear shaped so the dream team of him and van gaal might get nipped in the bud

i dont think its mind games from whelan at all,he is in limbo as much as the rest of us as to whats happening and for wigans sake he needs to know where he stands.he has told him he wants a decision soon.
i would say martinez is in regular contact with him as to whats happening.
he has never distanced himself from us and if its offered to him he will take it.

Whelan is far from stupid.
He is giving a running commentary as the saga continues.
It will all become clear why he is doing it very soon

i think martinez has impressed everyone at the club with all these sh1t.ty techincal drawings and `solutions` to tactical problems and all that malarky.
he wants to use them a bit more to get wigan a bit higher up the table and not needing a miraculous run of results at the end of the season to avoid relegation.
he`s obviously a charismatic fella and a nice fella so he`s talked himself into the job, his achievements didnt land him the job thats for sure because he`s done f**k all.
oh well, who knows, he could be a good manager
we`ll soon find out.
