Antonio barragan - Deportivo la coruna

Deportivo La Coruna are looking to sign Liverpool teenager Antonio Barragan on loan.

The Spanish defender linked up with The Reds last summer from Sevilla and made a big impression in the reserves.

His sole first-team appearance came in the preliminary rounds of the UEFA Champions League against CSKA Sofia, but he is rated highly by Rafa Benitez.

The versatile stopper, who turned 19 earlier this month, may again have a peripheral role to play in Benitez's plans for next season.

To that end, reports in Spain claim Deportivo are willing to hand Barragan first-team experience by signing him on a season-long loan.

Deportivo are restructuring their squad for next term and are awaiting a response from Liverpool regarding their enquiry

I would welcome that move. With Finnan, Kromkamp and Alves (hopefully) he will struggle to get 1st team experience at Anfield next term. A year long loan would suit him and us.

Would be a good move for him, but only if they intend using him in the first team, otherwise he might as well play in our reserves and get more used to the English style of play.

Good exposure for the lad. Why not? We probably don't need him just yet with the players we have on our books.

The experience he'll get will give us a better picture of his future with us. Good luck, lad. And do us proud!

It would be good for him but TBH I'd prefer him to go to a championship clubto aid his development in english football. He has had reserve team football though. I still consider Deportivo a big Spanish club with some good players. He would learn alot there.

Would be a good move for the lad cos he's only getting experience in our reserves, the lad looks very good so hopefully Deportivo can give him the experience to help him step his game up to the next level and challenege for a first team place in the future :)

Wud be good experience with him but am inclined to agree with adamnbarrett.  The styles of play in the Premiership and La Liga contrast hugely.  We need him to become accustomed to the more physically demanding aspects of the English football.  The lad has undoubted ability but we need to make sure he is moulded into a player that will benefit an English team that will need to combat an English style of play on a weekly basis.

Agree with you TIJ and Adamnbarrett.  Maybe a club like Wigan would have been better for the youngster.

from SSN:

Deportivo La Coruna are facing competition from Real Betis in their bid to sign Antonio Barragan, but remain favourites to capture the young Liverpool defender.

The 19-year-old Spaniard joined The Reds from Sevilla last summer and impressed for the club's reserves.

However, having made only one senior appearance last term, he looks set for another season on the fringes of the first-team at Anfield and Rafa Benitez could well consent to a season-long loan to help his young charge accrue some vital experience.

Depor have been following his progress for some time with their coach Joaquin Caparros having overseen his development in Sevilla's youth ranks.

Caparros is looking to rebuild his Depor squad after a mediocre first season at the Riazor and feels the versatile young stopper could add some quality and energy to his side.

Betis, now managed by Javier Irureta, are also keen on Barragan, but the youngster is thought to prefer a reunion with his former coach Caparros.

A deal should be completed before the forthcoming European Under-19 championships in Poland at which Barragan will be representing his native Spain

Don't agree with that.  The coaching the kid will get at someone like Deportivo or Betis will be much better for his development than going somewhere like Wigan or Bolton.  Too much emphasis is put on physical training at English clubs, whereas ball skills, tactics and technique are generally coached better abroad.  I'd send him over there for a season where he's likely to get some first team football in a top league, then he can come back to us as a better player at 20 years old, still with plenty of time on his side to get used the the English league.

Seems like he WANTS to go...that aint good..

Heres a part of a daily post article (the prev part is Cisse moaning again)

Antonio Barragan's agent has revealed the player wants to return to Spain.

The 19-year-old arrived at Anfield from Sevilla in July 2005 and has become an integral member of the reserve team. But having made just one first-team appearance, his agent Fermin Gutierrez has declared Barragan wants to leave.

Deportivo La Coruna are interested in a permanent transfer, although Benitez is likely to only sanction a one-year loan deal.

"We have already said to Liverpool and Deportivo La Coruna that there are no problems for us," said Gutierrez. "The only thing missing now is a definitive agreement between the two clubs."

Real Betis have also been linked, with reports in Spain suggesting they are ready to offer Liverpool £1million and Barragan a six-year contract.

Betis is interested in Barragan, in Seville says that Liverpool FC offers to Barragan, Dudek, Zenden and 16 millions for Joaquin.
but I don´t think that this offer is true.
I would like that he come to Betis, but I think that Barragan won´t go to us.
