Man utd's old starting 11

The Premiership - General Discussion

Postby Fauxy » Tue Jul 20, 2010 7:15 pm

Was interesting to see on sky sports news earlier that the average age of their most common starting 11 is actually 31 years old!!

Van Der Sar - 39
Giggs - 36
Neville - 35
Scholes - 35
Ferdinand - 31

These are the oldest players in their starting 11 and they are probably all going to retire within the space of a few years. How the heck are they going to replace them without spending shed loads  :D

I know we dont have the youngest starting 11 either but Man U are gonna find themselves in a pickle soon!

Man Utd's starting eleven isn't as strong as ours IMHO.

Starting 11's matter little in the modern game IMO - so many f'uckin' injuries.

Seen that on SSN earlier but they did forget to leave out Valencia, Nani and Rafeal which would have brought the average age of the team right down and they are all first team players

Well they signed Smalling in January for around 10 Million and from what ive seen of him he doesnt look all that.

And they got that Mexican striker for £7 Million.

But it's no question that they are in the sh!tter moneywise.

When Fergie and all those players retire their issues really are going to take centre stage
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

tbh, i think they'll be ok

                      Foster

R. Da Silva   Rio/Evans  Smalling     F. Da Silva

Valencia     Obertan    Gibson        Nani

                Rooney   Mexican dude

Not a "great" team - but all under 25 and still one that has a lot of potential. One signing per year is all they really need.

it wasn't last year either. it was just that our team massively underperformed to levels which were unacceptable. rooney carried that side almost singlehandedly.

i'm actually entertaining the possibility of city finishing above united this season. as far as value goes, presuming fabregas stays (and it looks as if he will) i think arsenal are a great bet to win the league this season.

Much as it kills saying it but does anyone really doubt Ferguson rebuilding that squad ?

I think the Da Silva brothers are good (Rafael in a couple of years will be special).. Will probably start making more appearances this season
I think they have a dependable CB in Evans.. If Vidic leaves then his place in the starting 11 is secure i think..
Valencia, Nani, Rooney... excellent players going forward...

I think they've already done well to replace most of their older players... Obviously theey have a problem with replacing VanDerSar and perhaps to a lesser extent Paul Scholes but like I said, if there was anyone they would have wanted doing the rebuilding it would Ferguson...

I think we had a largely unbalanced side last season so to me I would say they had the better starting 11...

Insua, Lucas and the left flank were a problem for us last season..
RB and AM were their main problems imo... Even then they had the likes of Brown, Neville, Rafael, Giggs, Park and Berbatov to bring on...

To balance the books they might sell Rooney as they did with Ronaldo to Real Madrid..

I doubt the retirement of Scholes, Giggs and nobhead will impact them any more than Beckham leaving did. They'll just buy replacements like they always do.

Not without a replacement. They sold Ronaldo when they had Rooney, I doubt they'll sell Rooney until they have a more than adequate replacement
