Fulham vs. mls all-stars - Good or bad?

The Premiership - General Discussion

Postby cptrios » Wed May 11, 2005 7:22 am

It seems as though this year's MLS (the American soccer league) all-star game will pit the cream of the MLS crop against Fulham this July. Here's an article about it from the MLS site.

So, what do you all think?
If the MLS team wins, will you guys be impressed with American soccer, or embarrassed for English soccer?
Would an MLS win be tainted by the fact that it'd be the best players from the whole league rather than one of its teams?
Is all of this completely irrelevant because Fulham, at the moment, isn't exactly a top-flight team?
Is not "Papa Bouba Diop" the greatest name in all of football?

Discuss, please!

I think it would be an embarassement to English Football if they sent a class team.  Fulham are rubbish, and the only reason they are going, is because they are rubbish, and they have two Americans on their squad.

If I recall correctly, there were rumours that Chelsea were going to play a similar match last summer, but they replaced Real Madrid in the Championsworld tour when Real went to Asia.

I went to two of the Liverpool matches here last summer.  I wish a class side would come over and bust up all the dregs from the US and South America that play in the MLS.

I think it's a losing proposition for everyone.  If the MLS team wins, people will say, "well, you should have won, you have an all-star team".  If Fullham wins, they'll say, "well, it's an American team, you should win".  And both teams would be embarrassed if they lose.  I wish Fullhan would play the league teams so we could see a real test for the American league.  There are some good players in the U.S.  Eddie Johnson, Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan (if he ever decides to challenge himself in Europe).
