:O Thought that one might not go down too well.

FWIW I think Finnan needs to be replaced, as do Risse and Pennant (though they probably have been already).

Any intelligible comment explaining why you disagree dotty? Compare them with Man Utd or Chelsea's equivalents.

Finnan pisses all over anyone Chelsea put at right back.

He is also on par with Neville, some would argue he is better.

Finnan is an unsung hero at Anfield pal and you won't see many people say a bad thing about him.

Riise's great at LM as he proved on a few occasions against your lot, he's a terrible defender though and I think Heinze will mean Riise is a LM primarliy for this season.

Pennant?  Personally I aint a fan but Rafa played him in the most games last year and he did improve towards the end.

But if your putting man for man, Rafa would undoubtably put Gerrard as RM to accomadate our strong midfield. And we aint United or Chelsea, were Liverpool the most successful team in England.

When you come up with comments worthy of an intellegent reply you'll get one untill then this has gone a bit way of the thread and me thinks you are simply pushing for an argument

Finnan's better than Essien? I know from my Liverpool supporting mates how highly thought of Finnan and Risse are but to my mind they represent Gerrard Houllier's Liverpool, not the one that Benitez is trying to cultivate. I think by this time next year neither will be starters and you'll be better off for it.

You might be the country's most honoured club, but your side at the moment is chasing Manure and Chelsea and you have to face up to that.

And Dotty, I think my first statement is a valid opinion and I'm pretty sure others on here might share it, or at least part of it. It was not necessary to reply like you did. I'm not trying to stir things up for no reason, but if thats what you think I'll leave this thread alone.

Houllier's team was full of champions (although we did sigh some poo!!!) or have you forgot all the trophies we accumulated, Benitez is just taking us to the next level!

We'll be competing domestically and for european honours for years now!!!

Our slide may have been in the EPL and as all LFC fans will state that our aim is to claim it back but for a team you so called have said is on the slide the trophy cabinet over the last 5-6 years seems to have had regular editions and we have still stayed in europe each year.

Yes the EPL has slipped not for much longer it will return

How the hell is Essien a Right back?

You're talking shite there pal. Just because he filled in there does not mean he is their rb.

Gerrard started his career at Right back so if you're going to pull that one.......

Ferriera or Johnson is there right backs and Finnan :censored:'es on the pair of them.

Finnan's class and at 30 years old, I expect him to start for the next 2 - 3 seasons.

no way do we need a right back for 24mil when we already have finnan.
finnan is so solid and usually does well when he gets forward.
spend the money on some promising youth and leave alves to chelsea

Thats a good point but almost backs up my original claim. The Kop can get the team through round after round of cup competitions but lets face it Liverpool have not mounted a sustained title challenge in a fair while.

And where have I said the team are on the slide? Its blatantly improving, I don't know where thats come from.

And thats also a fair point about Essien, Rafa-Dodd. I'll take that back, but not Risse and Pennant.

The slide is in respect of you saying that we are chasing mancs and chelsea which to be honest in my opinion is a slide as we should be the ones being chased.

And as you have mentioned no a sustained title challenge has not been mounted for sometime but this really is getting away from the original thread of Alves and why i feel we do not need him.

i am sorry if i offended you earlier but when you question players ability in a team that is on the up and that are showing passion for the club then i get defensive even more so from a none supporter.

Ask anyone or read my old posts about Pennant.

I never rated the lad.

Riise showed last season he is shocking defensively but as I said Heinze should be in soon enough.

Good Luck with the season anyhow.

Thats alright Dotty.

And cheers Rafa-Dodd. I'm not going to be a regular poster on here so good luck next weekend and I'll probably drop in every now and then.

Up the Villa.

i beg you people to just have a look out for the 1st touch of all the people rafa has signed since he has been there.

i find it an amazing coincidence that they all not caple of killing a ball dead with one touch even babel who is dutch just happen to not have this ability.

to expect smooth flowing pretty football from such ugly ability is asking too much.
these guys are good at many other things but this.

i sometimes feel embarressed when watching this.

but i've come to a conclusion its just an amazing coincidence we have such players and that there is nothing fishy going on.

i don't mind waiting another 17 years to win the league...oh sorry i might not be on this earth.
