fee should increase on a daily basis... this dragging on favours Madrid who are still struggling to offload some of their players... add a million a day and they'll either get this sorted out soon or they'll just end their interest...

Sounds good to me, im glad Rafa is sticking to his guns on this one, if they want him they have to pay top dollar, we hold all the cards in this. Its a no lose situation for us, if he goes we get big money, if he stays he will have to suck it up and get on with it as its World Cup year and he cant afford to have a bad year with all the talent Spain have at their disposal

Unless he has secret powers we dont know about

I don't think selling Alonso for anything around £25million is a mistake, I don't think deciding to keep him (if he was willing to stay ) is a mistake. Letting this drama drag on though is definately a big mistake in my view. We need to get this sorted now one way or the other. If Madrid arn't happy with the price we want then we need to either accept that we are going to have to accept a little less or tell them to sod off.

We have other priorities that need attending to.

Agree with what you're saying s@int, but even if we say sod off,  it doesn't guarantee that that's the end.

It is if Rafa says thats it Alonso is NOT FOR SALE.  I don't like the idea of keeping someone who wants to go, and I would prefer we sold him, but we can't keep hanging on for ever waiting of Madrid.

What I really dread is the thought of this hanging round our necks till Christmas or even NEXT summer.

But Rafa wouldn't say that, he'd be hoping Real come back offering the asking price - ergo it dragging on .

:D  You are probably right mate, it doesn't stop me feeling annoyed and frustrated about the whole situation though.

i feel like going public with the domino signing of Aquilani is a great bargaining chip. Madrid are hoping that the pressure of everybody saying "get this over with" will force us to cave for less money. But if we play Alonso more minutes tomorrow and show that we are both fine with keeping xabi and that if it goes the distance we already have the wheels in motion on the replacement, so time has no affect on us Real Madrid, mwuahahahahha. Ergo, you might as well pay up now so that YOU can get on with YOUR pre-season preparations.

Flip. The. Script.

I am not 100% sure but I think I read that Aquilani is out for the first couple weeks anyway, so the fact that he has been named as the replacement so Madrid that we are either perfectly fine with Xabi playing the first couple of games (and therefore the rest of the season) or with Lucas starting. Showing that our need for the cash right away (and therefore less cash) is in fact not very high, and that we will be willing to wait you out, up til and through Aug 31 unless you meet the valuation.

Not sure if I buy any of that bluffing, but that could be the way we are trying to posture ourselves to get the best out of the deal.

On Aquilani, I had a quick look at him on Youtube and was considering beating my own record for "I know it's early..." thread bys tarting one before we'd actually signed him. I decided against it, but my view based on three minutes of action and the obligatory house track, was this.

He's right footed predominantly, and he has a good shot but not a Gerrard "hot shot Hamish" shot, more of a Beckhamesque whipped variety. He does though hit it with his left as well, although he very much relies on hitting it true in this case by keeping his technique sound. In build he is probably similar in stature to Masherano, and he did play one kind of flicked backheel pass on the clip I saw.

A couple of notes of caution though. Firstly, he looks a bit of a ponce to me :D No seriously, he does. Secondly, he's Italian and I can't remember the last one who did any good over in England, since Zola. There's been some decent ones too, the centre half who bombed out at Everton before playing for Inter was a good player, and there's been a couple of strikers with big reputations that have done feck all.

My early call-avoid.
"se e in una bottigla ed e bianco, e latte".

I must admit I dont claim to know much about Aquilani ,if I had the choice I would sooner Rafa aquired the services of  D' Agostino from Udinense who sprays the ball about in the same manner as Alonso did ,I have watched him in a few pre season games and he certainly looks the part .

I'd much rather we get Aquilani tan D'Agostino as Aquilani is more box to box and has a really nice shot, among the best in Seria A.
D'Agostini is more like Alonso but higher up the field. A bit too slow and dallies on the ball even more.

Biggest problem with Aquilani(besides spelling his name right) is that he is injury prone, ITALIAN and not sure at all he can handle the physical battles of the centre of the field.

And since Roma have De Rossi and Pizzaro they would be making a nice deal for someone who hasn't been available all that often anyway and who they can surive without.

But he has a lovely shot and he likes to try.
But.....
Which Italian has been a success in the PL?
Not many, that is for sure. At the same time how many of the big italian names have ever moved abroad??

Xabi Alonso Will Leave Liverpool To Join Real Madrid This Week - Report
The deep-lying playmaker could even make an appearance for Los Blancos in the US…
4 Aug 2009 06:00:26

It was Sport who broke the news yesterday that Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Liverpool for the signing of Xabi Alonso for €32 million plus an additional €3m in incentives.

Now, the Barcelona-based paper believes that the two clubs will make an official announcement in the next few days and the 27-year-old midfielder will join up with the Merengues squad some time this week.

It is even speculated that if all goes to plan, Alonso will be able to feature for Madrid in their North American tour, starting with a clash against Toronto FC on August 7 followed by a meeting with DC United two days later.

The ‘White House’ executive director, Jose Angel Sanchez had flown to Barcelona on Sunday to close negotiations with the Reds, who were playing a friendly against Espanyol.

The deal was allegedly reached early Monday morning and the only detail that needed to be ironed out was the amount and date of the first payment, a sum that Liverpool are reportedly eager to get their hands on as much and as early as possible to settle part of their refinancing debt as well as to purchase a replacement for Xabi.

The midfielder, who was thought to have decided to fly straight into Madrid from Catalunya after his side’s friendly, has opted to return to England to tie up any loose ends of his own in the transfer operation.

got my tickets about a month ago.  Will either be sporting a F.cuk off Madrid banner or a thanks for the memories type of banner.  Maybe Sabre could help me out with a Basque phrase that would get his attention.

Well, we will all know if that is true if we only buy let's say Aqualiani and nothing more. Then I would say this is what we will
come to expect in the future with those 2 owners...
