Letting this drama drag on though is definately a big mistake in my view. We need to get this sorted now one way or the other. If Madrid arn't happy with the price we want then we need to either accept that we are going to have to accept a little less or tell them to sod off.
We have other priorities that need attending to.

Agree with what you're saying s@int, but even if we say sod off, it doesn't guarantee that that's the end.

It is if Rafa says thats it Alonso is NOT FOR SALE. I don't like the idea of keeping someone who wants to go, and I would prefer we sold him, but we can't keep hanging on for ever waiting of Madrid.

But Rafa wouldn't say that, he'd be hoping Real come back offering the asking price - ergo it dragging on .

The deep-lying playmaker could even make an appearance for Los Blancos in the US…

It was Sport who broke the news yesterday that Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Liverpool for the signing of Xabi Alonso for €32 million plus an additional €3m in incentives.
Now, the Barcelona-based paper believes that the two clubs will make an official announcement in the next few days and the 27-year-old midfielder will join up with the Merengues squad some time this week.
It is even speculated that if all goes to plan, Alonso will be able to feature for Madrid in their North American tour, starting with a clash against Toronto FC on August 7 followed by a meeting with DC United two days later.
The ‘White House’ executive director, Jose Angel Sanchez had flown to Barcelona on Sunday to close negotiations with the Reds, who were playing a friendly against Espanyol.
The deal was allegedly reached early Monday morning and the only detail that needed to be ironed out was the amount and date of the first payment, a sum that Liverpool are reportedly eager to get their hands on as much and as early as possible to settle part of their refinancing debt as well as to purchase a replacement for Xabi.
The midfielder, who was thought to have decided to fly straight into Madrid from Catalunya after his side’s friendly, has opted to return to England to tie up any loose ends of his own in the transfer operation.
