That Aquilani looks like he's got a decent shot on him. I'd be happy to sit him 30 yards out vs the park-the-bus teams and just tell him and Dagger to shoot :D

The lad may well be a good player and I won't pretend I've watched him regularly because Serie A bores the sh.it out of me, but the facts are he has a bad injury record and is coming from a league where players are notoriously hit and miss in terms of adapting to a completely different style of football.  Surely for 18 million we could do better (Sneijder for a start).

me.  My thoughts exactly

infact, I said the same thing on the previous page:

Aquilani and Sneijder are being sold at the same price. I know which one I'd take. And it's not the Italian.

I wonder if Sneijder would have come to us? - Or if he didn't want to move to England?

I just think Aquilani has a real injury concerns and the fact that Roma's fans are celebrating his departure shows something.

Dont get me wrong, I'll support the lad if/when he comes to us... but I have the same feeling he'll be a miss, rather than a hit. Sneijder on the other hand....

Some of his goals look good on youtube mate, but he's been at Roma his whole career (bar one loan stint when he was a young player) and at 26 years of age has only scored 9 goals for Roma.  Whats that?  Less than 2 a season?  Hardly prolific.

More exactly, 2002-2009 he's made only 102 appearances (injury problems) and scored 9 goals.

I assume he's not being bought for his goals, but I honestly haven't seen enough on him to comment on the rest of his game.

I also note he's now a Liverpool player on his Wikipedia page

Snejder on the other hand is a player that rises some doubts about his mindset, and we have seen how mindset has brought Ronaldinho from number one to being demanded to lose weight when he comes from summer. I've seen details of quality in Snejder, but I haven't seen them consistently, AND, IMHO, we have a certain Gerrard who's the best at what Snejder does best.

If you ask me, what's stronger, a Snejder-Mascherano-Gerrard triangle, or a Lucas-mascherano-Gerrard triangle, then it's the former, in that sense that would be a good move for the club. But it concerns me a lot what happens when we won't have Mascherano available, and that's why I'd like a Hammanesque signing for the position.

Aquilani? I know fúck all about him. But his injury record is worrying.

Anyway, In rafa I trust, I won't get nervous until I see the player playing poorly 6 games. Or alternatively I won't get nervous until I see he doesn't play, like Degen. :D

Hopefully this is just a loose lead!
Fecking hell that goal record is abysmal...he sounds worse than Dossena did,he was rated in Italy and turned out shi'te.This guys own fans want him out....he must be feckin rank!
I cant believe Rafa will go for him,he'll have looked at his goal record and injury history!
Why would he want him?..Its a smokescreen......I hope!

Sounds like we are reaching the end game now. A few reports are saying that THE DEAL HAS BEEN DONE subject to a medical etc.

Aquilani from what I have read (can't say I have seen him play much) is a top class passer, with a good shot and was touted to become a world class star but for his injuries. Supposedly had an outstanding game against Madrid a couple of years ago.

I would have felt a little more confident if we had signed Barry, but onwards and upwards.

the thing that I am curious about is why we seemed so adamant about cash only. it seemed at the end, Madrid was willing to undervalue their own talent in order to push the deal through.  Was this some sort of strange principle Rafa was sticking too, possibly out of stubborness? does he just not rate the players even at these reduceded prices? maybe he has heard (possibly in more detail) about these alleged attitude/partying issues and is turned away? or maybe he REALLY likes Aquiliani?

But what i am saying is i don't think he is the absolute world beater he is made out to be.

I know what's behind of what you say, when you see some praises it may hurt the pride of the club, and it's normal to remember the likes of Dalglish or Rush and remind the people Liverpool was still big after them.

It also hurts my pride that Alonso preffers to play with a bunch of :censored:. Meaning, I can forgive him he doesn't like Rafa, but I don't forgive him he puts his relationship with Rafa over the relationship with team mates and club. My Liverpool pride is hurt too, and Alonso's image in my head is tarnished.

But I still think he's a top quality player. World beater as in Zinedine Zidane or Messi, no, but better than Carricks and Barrys, yeh, definitely. :D.

Now Alonso leaves, Liverpool will keep growing, Alonso (I reckon) won't improve his reputation and career in Madrid, and his value will go down.

He's not the first to go to Madrid to seek greater glories and titles. He wouldn't be the first to fail to do so, and hopefully the story will repeat itself, and just like Owen had to see how we won the CL while he suffered in that brothel of Madrid dressroom, we'll see how Alonso fails to win anything while we win a treble and we sing together Liverpool and Rafa, Rafael, Rafa. :D
