Devaney: I'm not sure how you can blame anyone for wanting to be at the birth of their child. It's not like it was the CL final he was going to miss. As for using Rafa not going to his father's funeral the circumstances were vastly different. In Spain (Sabre may be able to confirm this) funerals occur the day after death. As Rafa was in Japan when his father passed away he would have been unable to get to Spain in time even if he had left immediately. That was why he stayed with the squad. I guarantee that if he could have been there he would.
Onto Xabi: He's picked in the squad to show he's still a Liverpool player and will be until RM stump up the cash. I expect Rafa to treat him no differently to normal. Partly to keep his price up and partly to wind Madrid up. If he leaves him out of the squad then RM know we want to sell and will keep the price low.
I'd happily sell Xabi now. He's an incredible player but he is replaceable. We probably won't find as good a passer but we can find a player who offers something more - be it more drive and dynamism or more attacking threat. Aquilani seems a bit injury prone but as Nanny mentioned I'd expect Rafa to have someone lined up that we don't know about.
I'd be happy if we sold Xabi for around £30m (anything over that including add-ons) and bought a replacement for £20m and then Silva/A.N. Other winger

If you read something on the Times website, do you have to check whereabouts the reporter got the info from? He was asked for a source and he put it up, it was ESPN or something wasn't it? In all honesty, if their sports journalist has read a report on a slimy newspapers website and puts it up on their site, it's not the fella who quotes hims fault is it?

These are what I got anyway :-
With Alonso won 8 drew 5 lost 2 (only 15 games and I thought he played 19 unless they were sub appearances?
without Alonso won 13 drew 8 lost 2
Thanks Saint - I'll stick with my idea that we could do better with a more rounded player!

is better players in the world for sure.
I would take the money and run, our midfield just doesnt produce enough goals, i want us
to rip the oppo apart this season, take the chances presented and not waste them.
If Torres and Gerrard are not fit who have we got to step up to the plate? no friggin body, with
the money from Alonso we could have that extra cutting edge that would take us all the way.

Which team scored the most goals last season?

Indications of the source don't come much clearer than that.
i didnt even bother checking for a link for the story till Woof asked for one.. i'd heard it on the news and merely mentioned it in a post before being asked about the source...

A fabregas, Pirlo, Xavi type of player..
I think the 2 in the middle (Alonso, Mascherano) as a pairing are a part of our attacking problems..
Nothing urgent about what im saying up here but if it doesnt cost us anything then i well and truely think that it could very well improve the look of the side when going forward
Diego. Lucho Gonzalez? Aquilani?
Aquilani is a good shout.. not so sure about Lucho (more of a hard worker than anything if im not wrong) and not a big fan of Diego either (plays this funny role that i think is better suited for sides with many flair players with great movement off the ball)...
But u get where im going at i guess.. Perotta, Scholes, Carrick sort of player...

got a great shout but not sure its much of a long term thing... read somwhere that Seedorf is interested in playing in England at some point... surely he'd be a great addition and would cost peanuts.... quality quality player
GYBS wrote:Perrota is a decent shout - Aquilani seems to flatter to decieve - decent against small teams but on the big tage just seems to fade away in the background . Lucho is decent but as you say more of a runner and seedorf while great is 32 nearly 33 now .
