Its Rafa´s job to be hardnosed remember. If RM come up with the cash, he´ll let him go.

surely this dragging on for longer doesnt do us any good.... if we're going to sell him then its better getting it over with in the next few days than waiting for weeks until he's done warming up in Thailand with us ...
Or maybe Rafa thinks that giving him time with the squad would make him change his mind about a move to Madrid ?
anyways hope this ends soon one way or the other because if not for anything else, its probably distracting us from following up on other acquisitions who are probably needed to strengthen some weak areas in our squad (backup striker and CB to start with)

What if they come up with the cash a day before the window closes or a day before the season starts ?!

Setting a deadline would be a better way to go about this imo...

Correct, and I'm not keen on leaving players go just because they have a dream or they want to prove something to Rafa. When Alonso signed a extension of the contract 2 years ago he wanted a long contract thinking of his future no, he defended his interests and he got a wage rise.

But when you sign a contract you also have obligations to the club. I think that due to his personality, he'll keep being a good professional. If Ronaldo did that, if Villa is going to stay at Valencia, if Barry stayed at Villa, then Alonso can stay here in this crucial season. Tell him we'll sell you next season with 28 years and still two years of contract, and that's all.

Quite simply the club has to do what it's at their best interest. What Alonso wants for his career is irrelevant, contracts have no feelings. So far Purslow and Rafa are doing what I expected of them.

Personally, i dont think theres as big a gap in quality between the 2 players as you seem to suggest...

You won't see big continental clubs going for Barry... he has not the same quality of Alonso... even the less Gerrard... they won't go for Carrick either... there's an importang gap between good and top class... That's why he's worth less millions...

I don't feel like explaining basic concepts of football to someone who starts labelling why I appreciate Xabi's game as a W*nk... I think you'd better stick to the kind of football you seem to like and we ignore each other...  we're talking about different games... what you understand for good football doesn't have anything to do with what I understand for good football... let's move on... :nod

Have any "international" clubs come in for Gerrard though? It is a mystery to me how these inferior players play for teams who for the last few season have completely dominated in Europe.  Maybe the international teams should re-evaluate what a good player is. Latin-speaking countries is not always a prerequisite  :D

BTW before someone comes in with well what about Barca I still consider them to be one fo the luckiest winners of the Champions league ever as they shouldn't even have been in that final if it wasn't for the most outrageously bad refereeing I have ever seen.

Real Madrid in the past. If Gerrard moved an eyebrow in the direction of leaving the club, the public offers would be known. I'm not praising Gerrard due to my Liverpool bias, I'd do the same thing if he played for Arsenal. He's way better than Fabregas.

This year according to Rafa we've received 4 offers for Torres all of them of a lot of millions. But when a movement is impossible it's not even made public by the press, as the second targets do not like to know they're second options (Like Benzema in the Real Madrid case).

Doesn't exactly looks like he's staying now to me

Rafa says yes he will be here for the game against thailand and he'll be here next week. Oh i guess that must mean hes staying here for good haha he's said nothing about him staying for next season

Wish he'd just come out and say he's going nowhere but he hasn't

Well they need to come up with the readies then dont they,

An if i was Xabi now id be havin second thought about goin there , obviosly Madrid dont think hes worth what were asking and are  being fecking cheeky with there valuation of him , I remember them saying a few weeks ago that they wanted him but he wasnt a priority big money signing , Well we think he is , so as i said if they want him make the cheeky g.ets pay

Your'e right. They should have been knocked out by Liverpool if it was not for the dodgy ref giving Chelsea all the decisions everytime dogbreath and fell over. Shocking!
