Well, I think the reason why it requires two more days to know simply comes down to money, if RM agrees to pay close to 30million quids, then Xabi is a gonner. Otherwise, he stays. I guess it is now up to Xabi's agent to get that magical number he had wanted.

RM are screwing us .... waiting longer and then putting in the amount we are wanting ...................................so we fail to use the money in getting in a replacement this transfer window .........just wait and see... I am sure he will leave for Real at around 30m pound/euro and we will be left with no time to get someone decent in .

We apparantly we have more money than Utd and Chelsea to spend so it shouldn't be a problem getting a replacement first. :D

i watched a big bulk on our game last season, and alonso passing was just magical. especially those 35-40 yards passes.
even with 30 mil, i dont think we would have gotten a good deal.
the biggest problem is with the replacements. any ideas?

Liverpool To Spend Potential Xabi Alonso Cash On Valencia's David Silva - Report

The Reds still want their Basque star to stay, but if he does leave, they will try and sign Silva with the money...

16 Jul 2009 04:43:00

Should Liverpool sell Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, Rafa Benitez will aim to spend most of the money on David Silva.

Benitez is still desperate to hold on to Alonso, but recognises that the player wants to leave the club. Thus, he might have to accept a bid of around €35 million from Los Merengues.

According to The Daily Telegraph, if Madrid produce the cash, Benitez will accept the bid and then chase Silva. The pint-sized star has long been a favourite of Benitez's, and given his former Valencia connections, he believes he can convince Los Che to sell.

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United have all shown an interest in Silva in the past, while the player has previously stated that he would prefer to remain in Spain, if he had to leave Valencia.

It is believed that Benitez will use any remaining money to offer Javier Mascherano an improved deal, so that he does not lose both his holding midfielders.

Just reading a article that I found interesting...

Instead, he may seek to add an extra attacking dimension from deep. Alonso and Mascherano worked perfectly together as the former thought and the latter acted, one orchestrating, the other hunting. Their weakness, though, was goals. Alonso scored three last season – two penalties, one free kick – and Mascherano none. A goalscoring midfielder may have won Liverpool the League.

I know Alonso scored 4 in the league and was class lat season but he still did lack goals that could of won us a few more points that another player could of got for us.
