The Alonso Thread - hands in transfer request

Liverpool Football Club - The Players Lounge

Thats what you'd be hoping will happen.

It seems every summer though - there is some problem somewhere at Liverpool Football Club, one that the guttersnipes can't wait to get their grubby name on and call an 'exclusive'  Some 'major' and 'earth-shattering' instability fabricated amongst themselves that they cannot wait to see undermine the place. This is the way of it - they don't like us, we don't like them. Simple.

There is also, however, no smoke without fire - and these two key figures simply must be putting the rumours to bed if they are indeed false. But make no bones about it...the press are constantly having a field day with this club, and will stop at nothing to destabilise the ship. Until we hear for sure, it WILL provide all the ammo these c*nts need.

Barcelona are going after fabregas now , surely they will make him first pirority and they will go for him if they can sell eto , they don't have enough cash for masch at the moment . I'm confident that both of them will stay if rafa maintains this firm stand on the price tag throughout and if clubs want them , well they have to pay up

My mate has this theory that the notion of Alonso even considering playing for Madrid is ridiculous due to him being from the basque region and this would be the equivalent of a protestant playing for Celtic a la Neil Lennon or vice versa.

Don't know if this is true I'm sure that Sabre would know more about this if he's knocking about tonight.

Anywho, FWIW I don't think either player will be going anywhere. Why would they?? They are on the verge of something great at Liverpool. I wouldn't say next season is make or break but this is by far the best opportunity we have had of winning the title for a dogs age. I look at it this way, if RM an FC BC want these two so bad, they'll come back for them the following season.

The pros of staying with us for at least one more season are far greater than going to another club and starting all over again. Can you imagine the atmosphere parading past the fiveways and and finally outside st georges hall with that prem trophy and possibly CL?? Any proper player would kill to feel and be a part of that.

Alright Cigg,

Nowhere really! Just been in a few different jobs since I was a prolific poster on here! Even included a stint in the RAF Regiment but decided it wasn't for me so I'm back into more familiar office surroundings now doing insurance lol

I've been watching from afar though, keeping tabs!

How's things?

Same as mate, Rafa is a stubborn bugger and he won't budge. I love it. The manager isn't stupid, he knows the whole market has gone bonkers and if Madrid want Alonso they will have to pay silly money because we will have to pay silly money for his replacement. No point them whinging about it because it is them who have caused it. I thought it was a dead cert he would leave a few weeks back but I think we'll keep him now. He's got too much class to come out and say he wants a move and I don't think Madrid will pay the asking price, surely they would have already paid it by now? They didn't exactly hold back when they went in for Ronaldo, Kaka and Benzema.

I detest the way Madrid go about their business, even to the point that I wasn't too bothered when their attempts to get Ronaldo failed last summer. Considering they are supposed to be the most famous club in world football, they show no class.

I think both players have a little too much class to put in a transfer request Nan + neither player is stupid, if they put in a request and then the deal falls through they've still gotta play in a stadium full of reds week in, week out. A transfer request is the last resort for most players and is usually a final push to secure a move, I don't think we'll see it from either player. However, it certainly looks as though both players would like to move on IF the clubs can work out a deal. I think they will both take it on the chin and get on with it if it doesn't happen + i'd expect the fans to get behind them and remind them they're at the greatest club in the world.

I don't get madrid they paid 30 million for lassana diarra and alonso is much better than him , with how inflated the market is alonso should be closer to 40 million and i'm glad rafa is not budging , fecking spanish clubs . Messi needs to shut his mouth , him and busquests are saying how much they'd love masch to come to barcelona , barca are equally as bad as madrid except that they are getting their players to do the dirty work for them

Balague: ‘Alonso has asked Rafa to release him’

Author: Ben Moss

Respected Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has revealed Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has told Rafa Benitez to allow him to move to Real Madrid.

The Spanish journalist who is a regular expert on Sky Sports’ ‘Revista de la Liga’ suggests at the moment the deal is in danger of falling through because of Liverpool’s lofty valuation of the former Real Sociedad star, yet Balague intimates it might be better for all concerned to let the 27-year-old leave Anfield.

Writing on his official website, Balague said: “It is true that Real Madrid are getting a little impatient with the situation (Alonso transfer saga) and they would like to find a solution as soon as possible – not only with Xabi Alonso but they would like all of their transfer activity complete before pre-season in around two weeks time.”

“Rafa Benitez has been publicly sending out the message that he does not want Xabi Alonso to leave – but I cannot help wondering if, in these circumstances, it is entirely fair to do so when Xabi appears determined to move on.”

Balague also suggested the relationship between Alonso and Benitez is nearing a breaking point.

The esteemed journalist continued: “Their relationship may have reached breaking point: Rafa decided to sell him last summer and the player accepted the situation. However, when there were no concrete offers that matched Rafa`s valuation, Xabi was told he would be staying. Xabi was previously asked to sign a new deal and he did so.”

“The player now feels it is time to move on and he has asked Rafa to release him so that he can pursue fresh challenges.”

“Under entirely normal circumstances, when there are healthy relationships between player, manager, agent etc – everything would be fairly straightforward and concluded with the minimum of fuss.”

“However, it appears that nobody is willing to make compromises or make concessions and the situation seems to be in stalemate.”

If a deal is not concluded between Real Madrid and Liverpool, Balague intimates it would not be beneficial for the player or indeed Liverpool.

Balague added: “The danger is that Real Madrid will run out of patience and focus their attention on other targets (the Spanish newspaper Marca is reporting that De Rossi of Roma is already being lined up as an alternative).”

“If that were to happen, and Xabi ends up staying at Liverpool – I have to ask how healthy that would be for the relationship between manager and player at Anfield, and how motivated will Xabi be next season?”

“This could also lead to another potential problem for Benitez: if a price tag has been placed on Alonso, a player who has asked to leave – what happens if a premiership rival puts that money on the table after Madrid have withdrawn their interest?”

“Would it have been better to have sold to Spain, rather than to a Premier League rival?”

“Perhaps a bid may come in from one of the big Italian clubs, but if not, the situation becomes increasingly more complicated and I fear it may not end to everyone’s satisfaction”

Just incase :D

BARCELONA have stepped up their pursuit of Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas.

The Catalan giants' president Joan Laporta claimed signing £40million-rated Fabregas is high on their agenda this summer.

He said: "Signing Cesc this summer is not a solution we have discarded."

Laporta openly tapped up Fabregas, 22, last week when he told the Spain star to declare he wants to join his boyhood club.

It was reported on Monday that the Arsenal board were bracing themselves for an offer from either Barca or Real Madrid - and would reluctantly part with the star for around £40m.

Real could turn to Fabregas after being frustrated in their bid to sign Liverpool's Xabi Alonso.

After nabbing Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Karim Benzema, Real are still looking for a classy midfielder to pull the strings.

ROBIN VAN PERSIE, who has signed a new long-term contract, last night told Arsenal fans to keep faith with Arsene Wenger.

The Dutch striker, 25, said: "I trust the manager and my message to everyone is to be patient, trust the team and the people above."
