Is right rafa lad .

Rafa wants loyalty from duo
Reds boss confident of keeping Alonso & Mascherano

Rafa Benitez believes Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano owe it to Liverpool to stay at the club.

Midfield duo Alonso and Mascherano have both been strongly linked with moves away from Anfield to Spain this summer.

Real Madrid have openly declared their interest in Spanish ace Alonso, while Barcelona are keeping tabs on Mascherano.

Benitez is confident the key duo will remain on Merseyside and he has revealed he would like the pair to show some loyalty to Liverpool.

"I do not think Alonso or Mascherano will go. It is clear that they both are under contract with long-term agreements. That is it," insisted Benitez.

"There has been a lot of things written, a lot of rumours, but both players are under contract and we have no more need to talk about things.

"They are both very good players and I will be very pleased to keep them. They both have very good contracts.

"We signed them both from different situations. Alonso was coming from Real Sociedad and nobody had really heard much of him outside of Spain, he did well and we renewed his contract because of that.

"Mascherano came from West Ham where he had not been doing well. We brought him here and gave him a good contract, so we are very pleased with them both and that Liverpool has been very good to them."

Can't see were rafa is asking for loyalty though , just SSN putting there usual spin on things.

Igor, if nowt else it sends a strong signal to the rest of the squad - 'Dont think you can just walk out of here, you´re under contract and you dont go anywhere unless I agree'.   I'm all for it mate.

Asked if we were back in for him this summer he replied....He is at City no....and when the reporter said yes, Rafa said Money Money Money ....

The reporters response....its as simple as that is it....

Igor your right mate.

But if they offer 27mil i would take it, players differ season by season, if he want's to go and on top of that has a stinker
next season we will get half of what Rafa want's.

Alonso has had 1 great season out of the last 3, i think
it's madness to keep a player that want's to go.

that’s the worrying thing.

one season can have a drastic effect on price.

[look at Glen Johnson, who last summer was worth about £9m, and we pay double that after one good season]

Last summer we rejected bids of around £14m for xabi, and I reckon had a bid come in at £18/19m we would have taken it.

After one season of good form, we’re rejecting (informal) bids in the low 20s cause rafa is now holding out for mid 30s.

If Xabi’s form does drop and he falls out of favour, and Madrid buy de rossi, we could struggle to offload him for £18m next summer….

Yeah but to counter that argument Rafa cant afford to lose Xabi AND Masher so would probably write off 10 million to maintain stability and the title challenge - long term it would be peanuts.

United lost Ronidildo and Tevez - Liverpool have to strike and strike hard whilst United are weak - this is our best chance to win the league for years.

Good point well made, Reg.  Not surprisingly, I don't share some people's concerns that Alonso's form will dip dramatically next season.  Beyond that, though, we have a system that works and a team that we know are capable of pushing for the title so I'd rather not think of the players as commodities with fluctuating sell-on values and more as tried-and-true cogs in the Liverpool machine that we should be trying to hold onto as strongly as possible.

TBH I don't either if he had any reason to let his form drop he would of done it last season after the way Rafa was ready to flog him if he got Barry.

Alonso will also remember the debt he owes our fans who backed him over Barry and who voted him our player of the season over Gerrard.

You can't hold Alonso to ransom, last year Rafa tried to flog him all summer and
now Alonso has had enough and want's to feck off, i can't blame the lad.

Thats bullsh!t, a price was set and no one met it, so Rafa valued him more than anyone else. And if that is the reason he wants away (I doubt it is) then he is being totally unprofessional so maybe it would be best all round to get rid.

A players worth isnt just about his ability though, its also about how much he is needed by his current team, had we signed Barry then around 20mill for Alonso would be about right but with us having no ready replacement and with players in his mould being hard to come by, in his class anyway, add to that with our current side we have a real chance of winning the league then I think Rafa is right to ask for 30-30+ because right now thats what he is worth to us.

An i agree totaly  :nod He thinks because hes Spanish he has the inside info on what Rafa or any of our Spanish players are up to. Bo.llox,

An the only downside i have in all this rigmarole is when either Xabi or Mashrano have been questioned about Barcelona or Madrid they could of put this carryon away long ago by just saying i play for Liverpool , an not gone on about how they were flatterd big teams like them two were interested in them, What are we like, Thats my only problem with this,

An yet none of them have put in a transfer request, Why , ok theyd loose money an most prob the fans would turn, but surley if they dont want to be here, thats the price theyd have to pay, So im going with my heart here an say maybe just maybe they do wanna stay, because ive not heard either one of them say they wanna go, An yes Xabi has spoke to officials at Real but that was arranged by his agent, But surly they must do the decent thing now themselves an knock all this in the head by coming out publicly an saying either way they wanna go or they had no intension of going an its all spec, Do the decent thing lads ,
HE WHO BETRAYS WILL ALWAYS WALK ALONE
