Balague - Alonso has asked Rafa to let him go

Writing on his official website, Balague said: “It is true that Real Madrid are getting a little impatient with the situation (Alonso transfer saga) and they would like to find a solution as soon as possible – not only with Xabi Alonso but they would like all of their transfer activity complete before pre-season in around two weeks time.”

“Rafa Benitez has been publicly sending out the message that he does not want Xabi Alonso to leave – but I cannot help wondering if, in these circumstances, it is entirely fair to do so when Xabi appears determined to move on.”

Balague also suggested the relationship between Alonso and Benitez is nearing a breaking point.

The esteemed journalist continued: “Their relationship may have reached breaking point: Rafa decided to sell him last summer and the player accepted the situation. However, when there were no concrete offers that matched Rafa`s valuation, Xabi was told he would be staying. Xabi was previously asked to sign a new deal and he did so.”

“The player now feels it is time to move on and he has asked Rafa to release him so that he can pursue fresh challenges.”

“Under entirely normal circumstances, when there are healthy relationships between player, manager, agent etc – everything would be fairly straightforward and concluded with the minimum of fuss.”

“However, it appears that nobody is willing to make compromises or make concessions and the situation seems to be in stalemate.”

If a deal is not concluded between Real Madrid and Liverpool, Balague intimates it would not be beneficial for the player or indeed Liverpool.

Balague added: “The danger is that Real Madrid will run out of patience and focus their attention on other targets (the Spanish newspaper Marca is reporting that De Rossi of Roma is already being lined up as an alternative).”

“If that were to happen, and Xabi ends up staying at Liverpool – I have to ask how healthy that would be for the relationship between manager and player at Anfield, and how motivated will Xabi be next season?”

“This could also lead to another potential problem for Benitez: if a price tag has been placed on Alonso, a player who has asked to leave – what happens if a premiership rival puts that money on the table after Madrid have withdrawn their interest?”

“Would it have been better to have sold to Spain, rather than to a Premier League rival?”

“Perhaps a bid may come in from one of the big Italian clubs, but if not, the situation becomes increasingly more complicated and I fear it may not end to everyone’s satisfaction”

Rafa use your nut and let the fella go.

You can't hold Alonso to ransom, last year Rafa tried to flog him all summer and
now Alonso has had enough and want's to feck off, i can't blame the lad.

Tony Barrett in the Echo:

LIVERPOOL’S hopes of holding on to Xabi Alonso have been raised after Real Madrid made a move for Italian international midfielder Daniele De Rossi.

The Spanish giants have become increasingly frustrated in their ongoing bid to make Alonso their latest big money acquisition as Liverpool’s resolve to hold on to their midfield playmaker has not weakened.

Rafa Benitez has repeatedly made it clear that the 27-year-old is not for sale despite Real’s remorseless public campaign – and the Reds boss is yet to show any sign he is ready to change stance.

Sources in Spain today indicated that Real are “fed up” with Benitez’s refusal to bow to the demands of his former club by caving in and allowing Alonso to leave Anfield.

In the face of such resistance Real are now examining their options and are ready to test the water to see if AS Roma’s desire to hold on to De Rossi is as strong as Liverpool’s determination to retain Alonso’s services.

Newly installed Real president Fiorentino Perez has already snared Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and Raul Albiol in a spending spree which has made world football sit up and take notice of the outlandish goings on at the Bernabeu but he is finding Liverpool a much tougher nut to crack than the other top clubs he has raided.

The growing feeling at Anfield is that unless Real make an incredible offer for Alonso that would allow them to go on a spree of their own, the Reds would be better off keeping hold of the Spanish international even if doing so reduces their own ability to make a massive splash in the transfer market.

Real sporting director Jorge Valdano has again spoken about the issue, admitting that a move for Alonso is now “further away” than ever – a revelation which will be music to the ears of the former Real Sociedad man’s legion of Anfield fans.

Not music to my ears, IF Alonso is not happy and wants
to go he will only be unhappy all next season, even without knowing it his form will be affected somewhat.

Let him go and get De La Rossi to replace him.

Well apparently he was unhappy this season because Rafa wanted to sell him to Juventus.. we saw the exact opposite of a drop in form.

I cant blame Rafa for keeping him at Ransom, he is under a contract at our club and he is a key player so it makes perfect sense.

Well just because that Ballaque clown says something is so it doesn't mean it is. I think we might have to let Xabi go, but him saying it doesn't convince me any more than I was already. I think he's a c... to be honest.

Igor your right mate.

But if they offer 27mil i would take it, players differ season by season, if he want's to go and on top of that has a stinker
next season we will get half of what Rafa want's.

Alonso has had 1 great season out of the last 3, i think
it's madness to keep a player that want's to go.
