It would be nice to see us as more of a consistent goal threat without relying to heavily on Torres and Gerrard. If Alonso stays which I'm hoping he will, we'll need to see more goal threat from our wide players like Rieira and Kuyt.

Agree on Riera but Kuyt? The lad scored 14 goals last season which ain't bad for a guy who played a lot of the time out wide. With the exception of Ronaldo I don't know of any other wide player who scored that many goals. Kuyt even scored more League goals than Rooney, Berbatov and Tevez which still shows you how reliant on Ronaldo they were.

Yes sorry, you are right. If Kuyt can carry on that kind of goal form then they'd be no problem. But more is needed from the left flank.

I think we were top goalscorers in the league, or pretty high anyway. But our goals came in batches 3-0's and 4's. The problem is our goals were not spread throughout the season as we had a few goaless draws. So the stats can be a bit misleading, and in those draws we lacked the creativity as much as the goals. I think someone like Silva would add that creativity against stubborn teams hense more goals.

As for the central midfield not scoring enough, with the exception of Lampard and Gerrard, no central midfielder scored anywhere near double figures that I can think of. United won the League and you'd be lucky if Carrick, Anderson, Giggs and Fletcher scored double figures between them. I agree that Alonso should score more but it was hardly for the want of trying. He hit the woodwork twice agaiunst Newcastle, once against Fulham, once against Chelsea etc.

We do need more goals from the back though, especially from set pieces which we must be the worst in the League at. We just don't have anyone who attacks the ball from set pieces and more often than not the delivery is awful anyway.

I don't mind him leaving now provided that it is his wish. So, forcing him to stay has no meaning. I just want to get over this quickly and find a replacement right away. The fact that Alonso is leaving for Spain is better. Can we get Pirlo on loan?

feck, really thought he'd be here next season, I'm still hoping :(

I can see the headline now

'Rafa to put faith in Lucas in coming season'
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

You know what I'm thinking the same thing, surely they haven't got that much money to go throwing around at Alonso when their problem is defence now, dont they want Ribery and Villa as well? and Arbeloa?

they're pr!cks, hope Barca p!ss on them

They've been throwing cash everywhere this summer, but this is all I have to say to them:

Rignt now I can't see Real splash out £35 million for Alonso.

They seem to have this misconception that forwards should warrant a 80% higher transfer fee and defenders and midfielders who doesn't score should cost a fraction.

They can take their 20-25 million offer and shove it.
Problem will be next summer when he only has got 2 more years
left. I can see Alonso not resigning and forcing our hand then,

But right now we are holding all the aces when it comes to Alonso and no offer under 25 million will be even considered.

Arbeloa on the other hand...
That is why we might have to sell Alosno next summer to avoid such a scenario.

Chelsea want 12mill for (Deco AND Carvalho) ... i say we offer them 15 mill and see what they have to say about that... not sure Carvalho would be too interested in staying in England but im sure Deco wouldnt mind giving it another go...
Would certainly solve quite a few of our problems especially if Alonso does leave... both would be good enough imo and we'd still have quite a bit to spend on other attacking options...
Definitely beats spending 10-15mill on some kid from the German league who had half a good season for a midtable club...

:D
why not ?!
You'd rather have Lucas and Skrtel than Deco and Carvalho ?!
Carvalho has been one of the best CBs in the world if not THE best in the past 3-4 years or so... Deco with Barcelona was one of the best central midfielders int he world.. started brightly with Chelsea then got injured and couldnt get a game under Hiddink.. both still have what it takes as far as im concerned and would be good buys... Fact that they played for chelsea means fck all to means honestly...

Would rather we spend our money on them than on Javi Martinez (10mill) or Kacar (10mill+) or any other unproven talentless midfielder Rafa seems to have his eyes on...
Same with Wheater and the likes for 5mill or so... will never be as good as Carvalho is despite his age now...

Carvallho is a good player, but would need to play regularly so I think its a no. Deco is about as suited to English football at this moment in time as me. He is another whipper snapper who likes to put his foot on it, have a little look round, "see the pass" and all that old b0ll0cks. Where's that picture of a broken record which is one of GYBS's faves when you need it, but those players do not prosper in the Premiership if they are seven stone dripping wet complete with a bucket of hair gel.

No way Jose', or whatever the feck his real name is (he can't be actually called Deco surely?). Even that plank who is one half of the very occasionally funny duo from Tyneside isn't actually called that, it's a nickname I believe. His real name is Roy McFarland or something isn't it? ('Dec' that is, not the diminutive Portuguese trickster).
